Doctors with Africa CUAMM is inviting qualified medical professionals to apply for the Pediatrician / Neonatologist position based at Kivunge District Hospital in Zanzibar. This opportunity is part of the organization’s continued commitment to strengthening health systems and improving maternal and newborn care across Tanzania.
About Doctors with Africa CUAMM
For more than 50 years, Doctors with Africa CUAMM has been working in Tanzania to strengthen the healthcare system and improve access to quality medical services for vulnerable communities. The organization focuses on comprehensive healthcare interventions that range from community-level health promotion and antenatal care to improving the quality of services in health centers and hospitals.
CUAMM works closely with the Ministry of Health Zanzibar to support initiatives aimed at improving maternal and neonatal health outcomes. Through evidence-based projects, the organization seeks to eliminate barriers that prevent communities from accessing healthcare while ensuring equitable and high-quality services.
Project Background: Tanzania Neonatal Assessment and Remediation Plan
In 2025, a neonatal units assessment conducted in Zanzibar highlighted several challenges affecting neonatal care services. The survey revealed that many facilities lack dedicated neonatal personnel and that patient-to-nurse ratios remain high. Additionally, only a few hospitals have specialists available for neonatal resuscitation during high-risk deliveries, and routine training for neonatal resuscitation is limited.
In response, CUAMM launched the Tanzania Neonatal Assessment and Remediation Plan aimed at improving both the availability and competence of healthcare workers responsible for newborn care. The Pediatrician / Neonatologist position will play a critical role in strengthening neonatal care services within this project.
