The Department of Defence (DOD) has announced five job opportunities within the Defence Policy, Strategy and Planning Division. The vacancies are based at the Armscor Building in Erasmuskloof, Pretoria, and offer opportunities for qualified professionals in administration, arms control, risk management and public-sector management.
The available positions range from Administration Officer and Assistant Director roles to a Deputy Director position and a Risk Management Committee Member appointment. 1. Deputy Director: Permit Processing

Salary: R1,101,468 – R1,297,476 per annum

Applicants should have at least Grade 12 together with a recognised Bachelor’s Degree or Advanced Diploma in Law, Public Management, Public Administration or another relevant NQF Level 7 qualification. A minimum of three years’ relevant experience as an Assistant Director within Arms Control or Administration is required.
The position involves managing the processing of permits for the movement of conventional arms. Key responsibilities include administering marketing, contracting, export, import and dual-use goods and services permit applications, company registration, End-User Certificates and IT system functionality.
2. Assistant Director: Exports

Level: 09

This position requires Grade 12 and a recognised Bachelor’s Degree or Advanced Diploma in Law, Public Management, Public Administration or a relevant NQF Level 7 qualification. Applicants must also have at least three years’ supervisory experience in Arms Control or Administration.
The successful candidate will process permit applications relating to Conventional Arms Control, obtain approvals for permits, administer export permit applications, validate applications, issue approved permits and monitor the submission of export confirmation documents.
3. Assistant Director: Administration (Personal Staff Officer)

Salary: R487,197 – R584,370 per annum

Candidates must have Grade 12 and a recognised Bachelor’s Degree or Advanced Diploma in Public Management, Public Administration, Office Management or a relevant NQF Level 7 qualification. At least three years’ supervisory experience in Administration is required.
The successful applicant will provide administrative support to the Chief Director Strategic Management. Duties include arranging visits, meetings and conferences, acting as a liaison between the Chief Director and the Chief Directorate, managing staff work submitted to the office, controlling the office budget and business plan, and managing assets and resources.
4. Administration Officer

Salary: R413,001 – R486,501 per annum
Level: 08
Centre: Armscor Building, Erasmuskloof, Pretoria
The minimum requirement is Grade 12 together with a recognised National Diploma or Advanced Certificate in Public Administration, Public Management, Office Management or another relevant NQF Level 6 qualification. Applicants also need at least three years’ experience in Arms Control or Administration.
The successful candidate will assist with secretariat services for the National Conventional Arms Control Committee (NCACC), Scrutiny Committee and other committees or sub-committees. Responsibilities include handling documentation, preparing committee books, liaising with committee members and supporting the maintenance of NCACC decision records in the IT database.
5. Risk Management Committee Member

Contract: 3-year fixed-term contract
Remuneration: In accordance with applicable statutory rates and National Treasury guidelines

The Department is also recruiting a Risk Management Committee Member for a three-year fixed-term appointment. Applicants should have at least Grade 12 and a recognised Bachelor’s Degree or Advanced Diploma in Risk Management, Accounting, Auditing, Financial Management or a relevant NQF Level 7 qualification. A postgraduate qualification is an advantage.
Candidates should have more than 10 years’ executive management experience in areas such as risk management, governance, internal or external auditing, anti-fraud and corruption, compliance management or business continuity management. Previous experience serving on oversight committees, particularly Risk Management or Audit Committees, is also advantageous. Professional affiliation and appropriate risk-management certification are required as specified in the vacancy.
