Job Purpose

The Assistant Director: Immigration Services Inspectorate will supervise immigration enforcement operations, coordinate investigations into immigration-related offences, oversee inspectorate activities, and ensure compliance with South Africa’s immigration legislation.

The successful candidates will provide operational leadership while working closely with law enforcement agencies and other government stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

Successful applicants will be expected to:

  • Manage immigration inspectorate operations within the assigned office or district.
  • Supervise investigations involving immigration law violations.
  • Provide advice on immigration transgression cases.
  • Represent the Department at security cluster meetings and other official forums.
  • Review investigation reports and implement corrective measures where necessary.
  • Monitor inspection and investigation statistics.
  • Analyse trends and provide recommendations to senior management.
  • Liaise with law enforcement agencies and relevant stakeholders.
  • Coordinate deportation activities with the relevant units.
  • Support investigations relating to temporary and permanent residence permits.
  • Oversee court cases involving immigration matters.
  • Implement departmental policies, procedures, and legislation.
  • Ensure effective risk management and regulatory compliance.
  • Manage staff, finances, and operational resources within the unit.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must possess:

  • An undergraduate qualification (NQF Level 6 recognised by SAQA) in one of the following fields:
    • Law
    • Public Management
    • Public Administration
    • LLB
    • Policing
    • Criminology
    • Forensics
    • Paralegal Studies
    • Criminal Justice
  • A minimum of three years’ supervisory experience in a law enforcement, legal, or security environment.
  • Valid driver’s licence (Code B, C1, C, or EC1).
  • Valid Professional Driving Permit (PDP).
  • Willingness to travel, including outside South Africa, and work extended hours.
