The Weights and Measures Agency (WMA) has announced exciting volunteering opportunities for qualified Tanzanian graduates seeking practical workplace experience and professional development. A total of 32 volunteer positions are available across various professional fields for a period of twelve (12) months.
Established in 2002 under the Executive Agencies Act, Cap. 245, the Weights and Measures Agency operates under the Ministry of Industry and Trade and is responsible for implementing the mandates of the Weights and Measures Act, Cap. 340. The Agency was created as part of the Public Service Reform Programme (PSRP II) to enhance efficiency and effectiveness in public service delivery.
This volunteering programme provides young graduates with valuable opportunities to gain hands-on experience, develop professional skills, and contribute to the Agency’s mission of ensuring accuracy and fairness in trade measurements across Tanzania.
Available Volunteer Positions
1. Assistant Weights and Measures Officer – 18 Posts
Duties and Responsibilities
- Adjust measuring instruments.
- Maintain and care for working standards.
- Mobilize working tools and equipment before and after field activities.
- Perform daily system initialization and backups for computer systems.
- Carry out other duties assigned by supervisors.
Qualifications
Applicants must possess a Diploma in Legal and Industrial Metrology from a recognized institution.
2. Weights and Measures Officer II – 8 Posts
Duties and Responsibilities
- Inspect, verify, and adjust measuring instruments.
- Maintain working standards.
- Provide advice on the verification and proper use of measuring instruments.
- Investigate cases of non-compliance with statutory requirements.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors.
Qualifications
Applicants must hold a Bachelor Degree or Advanced Diploma in Legal and Industrial Metrology from a recognized institution.
3. Records Management Assistant II – 1 Post
Duties and Responsibilities
- Search and retrieve records, documents, and files.
- Register incoming and outgoing mail.
- Analyze, classify, and arrange records and documents.
- Maintain filing systems and document storage.
- Handle requests for records from government institutions.
- Distribute files to responsible officers.
- Manage dispatch books.
- Perform related duties assigned by supervisors.
Qualifications
Applicants must possess a Diploma in Records Management, Records and Archives Management, Corporate Information Management, or equivalent qualifications from a recognized institution.
4. Legal Officer II – 1 Post
Duties and Responsibilities
- Administer the legal registry.
- Prepare records for court recovery and repayment cases.
- Prepare monthly legal reports.
- Maintain legal publications, government gazettes, notices, acts, and journals.
- Manage legal correspondence and police case files.
- Assist in legal and policy research.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Applicants must possess a Bachelor Degree in Law (LL.B) from a recognized institution and must have successfully completed Internship training or the Law School of Tanzania programme.
5. Public Relations Officer II – 2 Posts
Duties and Responsibilities
- Liaise with communication and advertising agencies.
- Participate in marketing and awareness campaigns.
- Receive and document stakeholder feedback.
- Collect and process information from various sources.
- Conduct market studies and e-service assessments.
- Develop public awareness campaigns.
- Prepare journals, newsletters, flyers, and posters.
- Capture and manage still and video content.
- Perform other assigned duties.
Qualifications
Applicants must hold a Bachelor Degree in Mass Communication, Journalism, Public Relations, Business Communication, or related fields from a recognized institution.
6. ICT Officer II – 1 Post
Duties and Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and test databases.
- Implement database security and access controls.
- Participate in database architecture, disaster recovery, and backup planning.
- Maintain database reference materials.
- Test system updates and enhancements.
- Troubleshoot database-related issues.
- Perform other assigned duties.
Qualifications
Applicants must possess a Bachelor Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, Cyber Security, Network Engineering, Computer Engineering, Telecommunication Engineering, or related disciplines from a recognized institution.
7. Economist II – 1 Post
Duties and Responsibilities
- Collect and analyze economic and statistical data.
- Prepare and disseminate economic information.
- Support project planning and implementation.
- Participate in resource mobilization activities.
- Conduct research and prepare reports.
- Contribute to strategic plan reviews.
- Follow up on funding releases from stakeholders.
- Perform other duties assigned by supervisors.
Qualifications
Applicants must possess a Bachelor Degree in Economics, Statistics, Agricultural Economics, Economic Planning, Planning and Investment, Project Planning and Management, or equivalent qualifications from a recognized institution.
General Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must:
- Be Tanzanian citizens aged between 18 and 35 years.
- Submit an updated CV with reliable contact information.
- Attach certified copies of academic and professional certificates, transcripts, and birth certificate.
- Provide two guarantors who are public servants.
- Submit an introduction letter from the Village/Street Executive Officer or relevant Local Government Authority.
- Be willing to volunteer in the assigned area.
- Attach a copy of their National Identification Card (NIDA).
- Have good moral character and no criminal or disciplinary convictions.
- Not have been employed by any public institution since graduation.
Important Notes
- Testimonials, provisional results, statements of results, and Form IV or Form VI result slips will not be accepted.
- Foreign academic qualifications must be recognized by the relevant authorities, including Tanzania Commission for Universities (TCU), National Examinations Council of Tanzania (NECTA), or National Council for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (NACTVET).
- The volunteering programme is intended solely for skills development and work experience acquisition and does not guarantee future employment in the public service.
