Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be expected to:
- Conduct scientific research on abalone population biology, ecology, and fisheries dynamics.
- Perform fisheries stock assessments and quantitative modelling.
- Develop scientific methodologies and analytical tools to support fisheries management.
- Participate in biological monitoring programmes, diver-based surveys, and field sampling.
- Collect, analyse, interpret, and report scientific data.
- Prepare scientific reports, peer-reviewed publications, and management recommendations.

Qualifications
Applicants must possess:
- A BSc Honours Degree or an equivalent qualification in:
- Fisheries Science
- Marine Science
- Marine Biology
- Biological Oceanography
- Population Ecology
- Quantitative Ecology
- Applied Mathematics
- Statistics
- Or a closely related scientific discipline with a strong fisheries science focus.
- Compulsory registration with the South African Council for Natural Scientific Professions (SACNASP) as a Professional Natural Scientist (proof must be attached).
- At least three (3) years of post-qualification experience in:
- Fisheries science
- Marine resource assessment
- Fisheries research
- Or a related scientific field.
- Strong knowledge of:
- Population dynamics
- Fisheries stock assessment
- Quantitative modelling
- Statistical analysis of fisheries and biological data
- Abalone biology and ecology
- Fisheries rebuilding strategies.
- Experience managing and interpreting large scientific datasets.
- Advanced computer literacy and experience with statistical software.
