Department of Correctional Services (DCS) Vacancies July 2026

The Department of Correctional Services (DCS) has officially opened applications for individuals interested in serving on Correctional Supervision and Parole Boards across several regions in South Africa. These appointments offer an opportunity for experienced professionals and community leaders to contribute to the criminal justice system by participating in parole decision-making processes that promote public safety while supporting offender rehabilitation.

Available Positions

The Department is recruiting for the following positions:

  • Chairperson
  • Vice-Chairperson
  • Community Member

These appointments are for a five-year term of office, or as determined by the Minister of Correctional Services in accordance with Section 74(7) of the Correctional Services Act, Act 111 of 1998.


Salary

Successful candidates will be:

  • Remunerated monthly
  • Paid according to Category D, Sub-category D1 of the remuneration framework for statutory boards as determined by the National Treasury.

About the Correctional Supervision and Parole Board

The Correctional Supervision and Parole Board is an independent body responsible for assessing offenders and deciding whether they can be safely released into society. Board members evaluate:

  • Victim and community interests
  • Public safety considerations
  • Professional reports submitted by Correctional Services officials

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must possess:

  • A recognized NQF Level 7 qualification in Criminal Justice, Social Sciences or a related field.
  • At least 5 years’ management or decision-making experience.
  • Excellent analytical and decision-making skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Good organisational and administrative skills.
  • High standards of integrity.
  • Knowledge of the criminal justice system and rehabilitation processes.
  • Understanding of victims’ rights and public safety.

Duties

Successful candidates will:

  • Chair Parole Board hearings.
  • Assess offender risks.
  • Decide on parole eligibility.
  • Draft reports and decisions.
  • Represent the Parole Board at official events.
  • Coordinate administrative duties related to hearings.
  • Promote public education on parole.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must have:

  • Good standing within the community.
  • Commitment to ethical and corruption-free administration.
  • Demonstrated interest in the criminal justice system.

Duties

Responsibilities include:

  • Chair meetings in the absence of the Chairperson.
  • Participate in parole hearings.
  • Evaluate offender risks.
  • Assist with report writing.
  • Recommend parole decisions.
  • Represent the Board when required.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants should possess:

  • A recognized Degree or National Diploma in:
    • Criminal Justice
    • Community Development
    • Social Sciences
    • Policing
    • Human Rights or related field.
  • At least 5 years’ experience in community development or criminal justice.
  • Previous decision-making experience will be advantageous.
  • Retired professionals are encouraged to apply.
