Important Requirements for Applicants

Candidates are advised to carefully complete all sections of the Z83 form. Only shortlisted applicants will be requested to submit certified copies of qualifications and supporting documents before interviews. Applicants with foreign qualifications must provide a SAQA evaluation report if shortlisted. The department also highlighted that all shortlisted candidates will undergo suitability assessments, integrity checks, qualification verification, criminal record screening, and employment verification.

For Senior Management Service (SMS) positions, candidates must possess the Nyukela Pre-Entry Certificate obtainable from the National School of Government. Management Echelon Vacancy

Director-General Ref No: DEE2026/008

The department is seeking a highly experienced and visionary leader to fill the position of Director-General on a five-year fixed-term contract based at the Head Office in Pretoria.

Salary

The successful candidate will receive:

  • R2 352 642 per annum (all-inclusive package)
  • Additional non-pensionable HoD allowance equal to 10% of the annual package

Requirements

Applicants must possess:

  • An Honours Degree or Postgraduate qualification in Public Management, Public Administration, Economics, or relevant Energy Engineering qualification at NQF Level 8 recognised by SAQA
  • Nyukela Pre-Entry SMS Certificate
  • Valid driver’s license

A relevant Master’s Degree will serve as an added advantage.

Candidates should also have:

  • At least 10 years of senior management experience in the public service
  • Proven leadership and strategic management experience
