Position Overview

The SBCC Coordinator will play a central role in leading grassroots communication and awareness initiatives that support landscape restoration projects across Tanzania. The role is designed for a professional who can bridge communication strategies with community engagement to drive behavior change and amplify impact at the local level. Working closely with landscape teams, partners, and global stakeholders, the coordinator will help design and implement communication approaches that enhance visibility, participation, and long-term sustainability of regreening efforts.

Key Responsibilities

The role encompasses three main areas of focus:

1. Social and Behaviour Change Communication & Visibility

  • Develop and implement grassroots communication strategies across project landscapes
  • Coordinate with landscape coordinators and managers on communication activities
  • Identify and apply effective rural communication approaches
  • Support media production, including filming and storytelling initiatives
  • Ensure strong internal communication across teams
  • Align activities with SBCC experts and best practices
  • Lead initiatives such as community roadshows, SMS campaigns, and radio programs

2. Digital Communication & Regreening Support

  • Manage budgets related to rural communication activities
  • Conduct field visits to gather insights and improve communication strategies
  • Contribute to internal and external reporting processes
  • Collaborate with scaling teams on digital regreening initiatives

3. Partnerships & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Maintain relationships with funders and implementation partners
  • Work with media and project partners to amplify impact
  • Identify and onboard new media collaborators
  • Promote awareness of project outcomes among stakeholders

Required Qualifications and Skills

Candidates applying for this role should possess a strong academic and professional background in relevant fields such as Communication, Journalism, Environmental Communication, Development Studies, Forestry, Agriculture, Sustainable Land Management, or related disciplines. Key requirements include:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant field
  • 3–4 years of experience in SBCC, landscape restoration, or related sectors
  • Demonstrated experience in rural communication strategy planning and execution
  • Strong stakeholder management and partnership-building skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, coordination, and communication abilities
  • Ability to work independently and proactively in dynamic environments
  • Strong problem-solving and project management capabilities
  • Fluency in both English and Kiswahili
  • A strong interest in sustainability, environmental conservation, and agricultural development
