Position Details

Role Purpose

The Finance Intern will support the Accounting Unit in delivering daily finance and administrative operations while gaining practical experience in:

  • Donor-funded financial management
  • Accounting procedures
  • Internal financial controls
  • Audit preparation
  • Financial compliance
  • Document management

All duties will be carried out under the supervision of the Accounting Unit Lead.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Management and Accounting Support

The successful candidate will:

  • Support filing and organizing financial documents, including invoices, payment vouchers, contracts, and supporting documents.
  • Ensure financial records are complete, properly referenced, and easily retrievable.
  • Assist in verifying receipts, approvals, reconciliations, and payment support documents.
  • Help track, issue, and reconcile approved staff travel advances.
  • Review staff retirement documents and reimbursement claims for completeness and compliance.
  • Identify missing documentation or financial discrepancies for further review by finance staff.

Procurement and Compliance Support

Responsibilities include:

  • Assisting with procurement documentation reviews to ensure compliance with internal procedures and donor requirements.
  • Organizing procurement files for audit readiness.
  • Monitoring procurement documentation to ensure completeness and timely submission.

Audit and Internal Control Support

The intern will also:

  • Prepare and organize documentation required for internal and external audits.
  • Retrieve supporting documents for audit requests.
  • Track audit document requests and support timely responses.
  • Follow WWF internal controls, segregation of duties, and ethical standards at all times.

Support to Field Programme Activities

The Finance Intern will:

  • Assist with verification of financial accountability documents submitted from field projects.
  • Review field financial reports for completeness.
  • Provide finance-related administrative and logistical support to project activities.

General Duties

The successful candidate may also perform additional duties assigned by:

  • Finance staff
  • Accounting Unit Lead
  • Head of Finance and Administration
  • Country Director or delegated supervisor

  • Accurate tracking of all assigned travel advances.
  • Timely review of staff retirement documents within two working days.

Audit Support

  • Timely response to audit document requests.
  • Full compliance with confidentiality and internal control procedures.

Professional Development

  • Demonstrated understanding of WWF finance procedures within the first three months.
  • Positive performance evaluations regarding reliability, accuracy, responsiveness, and attention to detail.

Required Qualifications

Applicants should possess:

  • A University Degree or Advanced Diploma in:
    • Accounting
    • Commerce
    • Business Administration
    • Or another related field

Required Skills

Candidates should have:

  • Basic knowledge of accounting principles.
  • Good document management and filing skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
