WMA Volunteer Opportunities 2026

The Weights and Measures Agency (WMA) has announced nine (9) volunteer opportunities for qualified and motivated Tanzanian graduates. The opportunities are available in different professional cadres and will run for a period of 12 months.

WMA is an Executive Agency under the Ministry of Industry and Trade, established in 2002 under the Executive Agencies Act, Cap. 245. The Agency carries out its mandate in accordance with the Weights and Measures Act, Cap. 340. The volunteering programme is intended to help young graduates develop practical skills and gain workplace experience in their respective fields.

A total of 9 volunteer positions are available as follows:

1. Assistant Weights and Measures Officer – 5 Posts

Duties and Responsibilities

Successful volunteers will be responsible for:

  • Adjusting measuring instruments.
  • Caring for working standards.
  • Mobilizing working tools and equipment before and after field work.
  • Performing daily system initialization and backups to computer systems.
  • Performing other related duties as assigned by supervisors.

Qualifications and Experience

Applicants must hold a Diploma in Legal and Industrial Metrology from a recognized institution.

2. Public Relations Officer II – 2 Posts

Duties and Responsibilities

The duties include:

  • Liaising with communication and advertising agencies.
  • Participating in the implementation of marketing plans.
  • Receiving and documenting suggestions raised by stakeholders.
  • Collecting and processing information from various sources.
  • Collecting data on market studies and e-service needs.
  • Implementing awareness and sensitization campaigns for WMA.
  • Segmenting customers for targeted campaigns.
  • Preparing journals, bulletins, fliers and posters.
  • Capturing, processing and storing still and video images.
  • Performing other duties as assigned by supervisors.

Qualifications and Experience

Applicants must hold a Bachelor Degree in one of the following fields:

  • Mass Communication
  • Journalism
  • Public Relations
  • Business Communication
  • Any other related qualification from a recognized institution

3. ICT Officer II – 1 Post

Duties and Responsibilities

The successful volunteer will be expected to:

  • Design, implement and test databases.
  • Implement security and access controls in databases.
  • Participate in designing databases, including server configuration, security, disaster recovery, backups, database structures, logical data models, scripts and stored procedures.
  • Participate in creating and maintaining database reference material libraries.
  • Assist in testing application updates, enhancements and changes.
  • Troubleshoot and solve problems related to database development.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors.

Qualifications and Experience

Applicants must hold a Bachelor Degree in one of the following fields:

  • Computer Science
  • Software Engineering
  • Telecommunication Engineering
  • Electronic Engineering
  • Network Engineering
  • Information Systems
  • Cyber Security
  • Information Technology
  • Computer Engineering
  • Any related discipline from a recognized institution

4. Economist II – 1 Post

Duties and Responsibilities

The duties include:

  • Participating in the collection of various data.
  • Collecting information and statistics for priority setting.
  • Preparing and distributing statistical and economic information.
  • Participating in drafting project requirements in collaboration with stakeholders.
  • Participating in resource mobilization.
  • Participating in research teams and preparing research reports.
  • Collecting inputs for reviewing the strategic plan.
  • Following up on the release of funds from different stakeholders.
  • Performing other duties as assigned by supervisors.

Qualifications and Experience

Applicants must hold a Bachelor Degree in one of the following fields:

  • Economics
  • Statistics
  • Agricultural Economics
  • Planning and Investment
  • Economic Planning
  • Project Planning and Management
  • Equivalent qualifications from a recognized institution

General Application Requirements

Applicants for the WMA volunteer opportunities must meet the following conditions:

  1. Must be Tanzanian citizens aged between 18 and 35 years.
  2. Must attach an up-to-date Curriculum Vitae (CV) containing reliable contact details, including postal address, email address and telephone numbers.
  3. Must attach certified copies of academic and professional certificates, academic transcripts and birth certificate.
  4. Must provide two guarantors who are Public Servants.
  5. Must attach an introduction letter from the Village/Street Executive Officer or relevant Local Government Authority.
  6. Must be willing to volunteer in the area assigned by WMA.
  7. Must attach a copy of the National Identification Card (NIDA).
  8. Must not have been convicted by any court of law for criminal or disciplinary offences and must have good conduct and acceptable moral character within the community.
  9. Must not have been employed by any public institution since graduation.
  10. Testimonials, provisional results, statements of results, and Form IV and Form VI results slips will not be accepted.
  11. Foreign academic certificates must be recognized by the relevant authorities, including TCU, NECTA or NACTVET. Applicants applying for positions requiring a specific GPA must attach a GPA Calculation Certificate issued by TCU.
  12. The volunteering programme is strictly intended for skills development and acquisition of work experience and does not constitute a basis for automatic employment in the Public Service.
