The UN Volunteers (UNV) programme promotes peace and development by integrating skilled volunteers into global initiatives. Administered by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), UNV operates worldwide to strengthen volunteerism as a vital force for progress and social change.
The Human Resources Section (HRS) plays a key role in building UNV’s capacity by attracting, developing, and supporting talented professionals. Within HRS, the Capacity Development Team designs and implements global learning initiatives for UN Volunteers serving across UN agencies.
What You’ll Do as a Communications Intern
Under the supervision of the Learning Analyst and Team Lead (Capacity Development Team), you’ll help design, deliver, and promote learning programs through creative communication strategies. Your main responsibilities will include:
1. Communication Strategy Execution
- Support the implementation of communication strategies that raise awareness of UNV’s learning programs.
- Identify target audiences and use effective channels to promote UNV’s global capacity-building efforts.
2. Content Creation
- Develop engaging digital materials, visuals, and presentations.
- Keep learning-related content up to date across platforms such as UNV eCampus, newsletters, and social media.
3. Outreach & Engagement
- Coordinate outreach campaigns and information sharing.
- Create newsletters, flyers, and learning catalogs to keep volunteers informed.
4. Digital Platforms & Analytics
- Maintain updated information on UNV eCampus.
- Track communication metrics and prepare reports on campaign performance.
5. Social Media & Online Communication
- Manage posts, announcements, and engagement via WhatsApp and social media.
- Analyze trends and performance to improve visibility and outreach.
6. Collaboration
- Work closely with global teams, stakeholders, and the UNV volunteer community to ensure consistent messaging and impact.

Who Can Apply
Applicants should meet one of the following criteria:
- Enrolled in a postgraduate (Master’s or higher) programme.
- In the final year of a Bachelor’s degree.
- Recently graduated (within one year).
- Enrolled in a postgraduate professional traineeship.
Preferred fields of study: Communications, Marketing, Journalism, International Relations, or other related areas.
Desired Skills & Qualifications
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English (additional UN languages are a plus).
- Strong organizational, collaboration, and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite, Illustrator, InDesign, or Canva.
- Understanding of digital media trends and social media management.
