1. Research Assistant – Statistician

Number of Posts: 1

The Research Assistant – Statistician position is suitable for graduates in Statistics who are interested in supporting research activities through data collection, record keeping and preparation of research reports.

Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  1. Assisting in data collection during on-farm and on-station experiments.
  2. Assisting in keeping research findings and maintaining research records.
  3. Assisting senior researchers in preparing research reports.
  4. Performing any other official duties assigned by the reporting officer.

Qualifications

  • Applicants must hold a Bachelor Degree in Statistics or an equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
  • Candidates are required to have attained a minimum Upper Second Class qualification with a GPA of 3.5.

2. Research Officer II – Range Management

This position is aimed at professionals with advanced academic qualifications in Range Management who wish to contribute to livestock research and related research programmes.

Duties and Responsibilities

The successful applicants will:

  1. Participate in data collection, data cleaning and searching for relevant literature.
  2. Assist senior researchers in preparing research proposals and regular reports.
  3. Assist senior researchers in disseminating research findings.
  4. Perform any other official duties assigned by the reporting officer.

Qualifications

  • Applicants must possess a Master Degree in Range Management from a recognized institution.
  • Candidates must have obtained at least 3.5 GPA out of 5.0 at Bachelor Degree level and an overall minimum pass of B+ for unclassified degrees.
  • The Master Degree must be related to the applicant’s Bachelor Degree.

3. Livestock Attendants

Number of Posts: 14

TALIRI is recruiting 14 Livestock Attendants, making this the largest group of vacancies in the current recruitment. The position involves practical livestock care, maintenance of animal facilities, security of institute property and support for experimental activities.

Duties and Responsibilities

Successful applicants will be expected to:

  1. Clean pens, bomas, sheds and equipment.
  2. Carry out dipping, dehorning, disbudding, debeaking and other related operations.
  3. Carry out milking and egg collection.
  4. Take care of experimental animals.
  5. Maintain registers for institute properties, including livestock, as well as records of incoming and outgoing visitors and items or assets.
  6. Conduct regular day and night patrols around institute boundaries.
  7. Check and ensure that doors, windows and other inlets and outlets are properly closed after office hours.
  8. Switch off lights when they are not being used.
  9. Ensure that institute property taken outside the office is properly registered and authorized by the relevant authority.
  10. Report any problems that may occur.
  11. Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications

  • Applicants must possess a Form IV Certificate.
  • Applicants must also have Government and National Service Training and/or Militia Training Phase II and/or any other form of military training.
  • A Certificate of General Animal or Crop Husbandry obtained from FDC, VETA or another recognized institution will be an added advantage.
