Job Description
The Resettlement Senior Officer will support the implementation of the Resettlement Action Plan by maintaining regular engagement with Project Affected People and ensuring households receive accurate and timely information about project activities.
The role also involves identifying household-level risks and vulnerabilities, supporting the resolution of concerns, maintaining engagement records, and helping ensure that PAP needs are considered throughout resettlement planning and implementation.
Key Responsibilities
PAP Engagement and Information Sharing
- Conduct regular engagement with Project Affected People in line with the Stakeholder Engagement Plan.
- Provide clear and culturally appropriate information to households and community groups.
- Manage expectations and respond promptly to concerns raised by affected communities.
- Support or deliver training to PAPs to help them transition effectively into host villages and new houses.
- Maintain accurate records of engagements, concerns, commitments, and follow-up actions.
Vulnerability and Hardship Assessment
- Identify households experiencing hardship or vulnerability using approved assessment tools and criteria.
- Monitor changes in household circumstances and identify emerging support needs.
- Work closely with the Livelihood Restoration team to ensure communities understand planned livelihood activities.
- Support monitoring to ensure livelihood restoration activities are delivered in accordance with the RAP.
Learning and Best Practice
- Work with the Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) team to identify lessons learned and emerging trends.
- Contribute to the identification and application of good practices in resettlement implementation.
- Support internal monitoring and evaluation of resettlement activities.
Stakeholder Interface and Issue Resolution
- Support the resolution of concerns raised by Project Affected People.
- Coordinate with the Grievance team to ensure concerns are handled in accordance with company procedures and IFC PS5.
- Facilitate feedback to PAPs regarding how their concerns have been considered or resolved.
- Help maintain constructive relationships between the project and affected communities.
Planning, Reporting and Documentation
- Participate in departmental planning, including activity planning, risk identification, and resource requirements.
- Prepare weekly updates and engagement summaries.
- Provide information and inputs for resettlement progress reports.
- Maintain accurate documentation in accordance with internal quality standards and data management procedures.
Qualifications and Requirements
Applicants should meet the following requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Community Development, Development Studies, or a related discipline.
- At least 5 years of relevant experience in resettlement, community engagement, social performance, or related areas.
- Good computer literacy and proficiency in basic computer applications.
- Experience working on resettlement projects is an added advantage.
- Previous experience in the mining industry will also be an added advantage.
Candidates should be able to engage effectively with affected households and communities while maintaining accurate records and coordinating with different project teams.
