Job Overview
The Production Superintendent will be responsible for overseeing all production activities at the mining site. The role involves coordinating teams, optimizing mining operations, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, and achieving set production targets in terms of tonnage, grade, and recovery.
This is a leadership position that plays a critical role in driving operational excellence and continuous improvement across production processes.
Key Responsibilities
The Production Superintendent will be expected to:
- Plan, organize, and supervise all production activities to meet monthly and annual targets
- Ensure strict compliance with safety standards, including OSHA, NEMC, and internal HSE policies
- Lead and mentor production teams, including supervisors, foremen, and crews
- Monitor and evaluate daily, weekly, and monthly production performance
- Coordinate with departments such as Maintenance, Geology, Survey, and Processing
- Optimize equipment utilization and reduce operational downtime
- Enforce proper drilling, blasting, loading, and hauling procedures
- Prepare detailed production reports for management review
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and cost reduction
- Conduct safety inspections, meetings, and risk assessments regularly
- Manage production budgets and ensure cost control
- Support training and development initiatives for team members
Qualifications and Experience
Applicants are expected to meet the following requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mining Engineering or a related field
- At least 8–10 years of experience in open-pit mining operations
- Minimum of 3–5 years in a Superintendent or senior supervisory role
- Proven experience in managing large production teams
- Strong understanding of mining equipment, methods, and optimization techniques
- Experience in gold mining operations is an added advantage
- Valid Tanzanian Class D or E Driver’s License is preferred
Required Skills and Competencies
- Strong leadership and team management abilities
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills
- In-depth knowledge of mining safety regulations and risk management
- Ability to perform under pressure and meet strict deadlines
- Strong communication skills in both English and Swahili
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel and Word
- Familiarity with mining software such as Surpac, Vulcan, or Deswik is an advantage
