Position: Good Agricultural Practice Technician (GAP Technician)

Job Overview
The GAP Technician will be responsible for working closely with farmers to ensure compliance with Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) and Agricultural Labour Practices (ALP). The role involves fieldwork, farmer training, monitoring agricultural activities, and supporting production estimates.
This position is ideal for candidates passionate about agriculture, farmer engagement, and rural development.
Key Responsibilities
Successful candidates will be expected to:
- Conduct regular field visits to farmers to monitor and record farming activities
- Ensure farmers comply with Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) and Agricultural Labour Practices (ALP)
- Perform risk assessments, including NTRM and barn compliance checks
- Assist in preparing production estimates through plant counts, crop surveys, and bale counts
- Monitor barn capacity and support pre-contracted volume planning and seed distribution
- Provide technical guidance to farmers on tobacco production
- Train farmers on essential practices such as:
- Seedbed preparation and management
- Proper pesticide application
- Use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- Land preparation techniques
- Maintain strong relationships with farmers and local agricultural stakeholders
- Ensure adherence to Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) standards
- Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisors
Qualifications and Requirements
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- A Diploma in Agriculture or related field such as:
- Agronomy
- Crop Production
- Agricultural Extension
- Horticulture
- Agribusiness or Agricultural Economics
- Experience in agricultural extension services or farmer outreach programs
- Basic computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Strong communication and training abilities
