A proposal by Seleman Jafo has sparked nationwide discussion after he introduced a motion in the 13th Parliament to create a special part-time employment program for young people. Jafo suggested recruiting 50,000 youths with Diploma and Bachelor’s Degree qualifications. Under the proposal, Diploma holders would receive a monthly allowance of TZS 500,000, while Degree holders would earn TZS 700,000. The initiative is designed to help young graduates gain work experience while earning a temporary income.
The idea has received mixed reactions. Some people support it, saying it could reduce unemployment and empower youth economically. Others believe the payment structure and implementation need improvement before the program is introduced. In an exclusive interview with AyoTV, Jafo explained that the main goal is to equip young people with practical skills and help them become financially independent. He also emphasized that the proposal is still open for public discussion to ensure it delivers better results for more youths.
