About the IFM Rector Position
The Rector is the principal administrative and academic officer of IFM and is responsible to the Governing Council for the proper administration and academic management of the Institute.
The Rector is also responsible for implementing the policies and decisions established by the Council, enforcing Council directives and overseeing the discipline and welfare of students.
The position requires an accomplished leader capable of providing strategic direction across academic, financial, administrative and institutional functions.
Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must possess a PhD in one of the following fields or an equivalent qualification from a recognized institution:

Relevant Work Experience
Applicants must have at least 12 years of work experience in a senior managerial position within a tertiary education institution or university.
The candidate must also be a Full Professor or Associate Professor and eligible for registration as a technical teacher.

Duties and Responsibilities
As the principal administrative and academic officer, the Rector will be responsible for the proper administration and academic management of IFM in accordance with policies established by the Governing Council.
The Rector will also be responsible for:
- Ensuring proper implementation and enforcement of decisions and directives of the Governing Council.
- Overseeing the discipline and general conduct of students.
- Providing leadership across the Institute’s academic and administrative functions.
- Directing and supervising senior management and academic staff.

Strategic Leadership
The Rector will be expected to:
- Provide strategic leadership and implement IFM’s vision, mission and strategic plan.

- Lead the Institute’s digital agenda, including artificial intelligence, digital governance and institutional information systems.
- Promote research, public engagement, consultancy and industry partnerships.
- Strengthen IFM’s position as an African centre of excellence in finance, management and allied disciplines.
- Develop strategic relationships with government, professional bodies, higher learning institutions and development partners at national and international levels.
- Encourage blended and interdisciplinary education, executive education and professional development.
Financial Sustainability
The Rector will contribute to the financial sustainability of the Institute by:
- Strengthening revenue diversification and developing income-generating initiatives.
- Ensuring prudent, transparent and efficient management of institutional resources and investments.
- Mobilising and procuring internal and external resources needed to implement Institute programmes.
- Maintaining strong internal controls and a culture of accountability.
- Supporting effective internal and external audit processes.
Staff and Students Welfare
Responsibilities relating to staff and students will include:
- Developing staff and maintaining a high-performance workforce.
- Building effective leadership teams.
- Fostering diversity, inclusion and collegiality among staff.
- Directing and supervising senior management and academic staff.
- Promoting student welfare.
- Supporting student employability and entrepreneurship.
- Strengthening industry engagement through internships, practical training and attachments.
- Being responsible to the Governing Council for the general conduct and discipline of students.
Governance, Risk Management and Accountability
The Rector will also be responsible for:
- Ensuring implementation of Governing Council decisions.
- Maintaining effective relationships with the Council, Government, regulatory bodies and other relevant stakeholders.
- Leading institutional risk management and compliance systems.
- Leading the continuous development and review of the Institute’s mission, objectives and policies.
- Serving as spokesperson for the Institute on matters affecting its welfare.
- Performing other duties assigned by the Governing Council.
Who Can Apply?

Candidates must have a relevant PhD, the required undergraduate and Master’s academic performance, at least 12 years of senior managerial experience in tertiary education or a university, and hold the position of Full Professor or Associate Professor while being eligible for registration as a technical teacher.
