Job Purpose
As the Head of Operations, you will be responsible for leading and overseeing all airport operational functions in Zanzibar. The role ensures dnata meets contractual obligations to:
- Customer airlines
- Freight forwarders
- Private customers
- Government and airport authorities
You will also maintain full control over capital, income, and expenditure budgets, while driving service excellence, operational efficiency, compliance, and the successful delivery of strategic projects.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be expected to:
- Oversee all airport operational departments including:
Customer Service, Aircraft Appearance, Turnaround, Baggage, Load Control, and Cargo - Ensure safe, compliant, and cost-effective flight and cargo handling operations
- Develop and implement Airport Operations strategy and ensure alignment across departments
- Establish and monitor policies, systems, procedures, and controls to meet operational and regulatory requirements
- Prepare, consolidate, and manage budgets while monitoring financial performance for profitability and cost control
- Drive high service standards for airlines, cargo agents, and private customers
- Build strong working relationships with internal departments, airport authorities, and external stakeholders
- Lead and deliver assigned projects on time, within scope, and within budget using recognized project management standards
- Champion safety and environmental compliance, ensuring hazard reporting and duty of care responsibilities are upheld
- Lead, coach, and motivate the management team through performance management and continuous improvement initiatives
Required Qualifications and Experience
To be considered for this position, applicants must meet the following:
- Bachelor’s Degree
- 10+ years’ experience in airport operations with a ground handling agent
- At least 8 years in a managerial role
- Strong knowledge of international airport operations systems and procedures
- Solid understanding of project management methodologies and best practices
