Haydom Lutheran Hospital (HLH) has announced an employment opportunity for qualified Tanzanian medical professionals to fill eight (8) vacant Medical Doctor positions. The positions are offered on a full-time basis and are suitable for medical doctors who are ready to work in a rural referral hospital environment.

Haydom Lutheran Hospital was officially opened in 1955 and currently has approximately 450 beds. The hospital was initially built and operated by the Norwegian Lutheran Mission before being handed over to the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Tanzania (ELCT), Mbulu Diocese, in 1963.

In 2010, through Government Gazette Public Notice No. 828 of 12 November 2010, Haydom Lutheran Hospital was upgraded to become a Regional Referral Hospital for Manyara Region.

HLH is committed to providing quality, affordable, and holistic healthcare services to underserved rural communities. The hospital also serves as a teaching and referral centre.

Qualifications and Experience

Applicants for the Medical Doctor position must have:

  • A Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree from a recognized institution.
  • Successfully completed a one-year medical internship.
  • Registration with the Medical Council of Tanganyika (MCT).
  • A valid MCT practising licence.
  • Ability to manage emergency cases effectively.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Willingness and commitment to serve in a rural setting.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong clinical decision-making abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a medical team.
  • Commitment to medical ethics and the professional code of conduct.

Duties and Responsibilities

Successful candidates will be responsible for:

  • Attending to, clerking, investigating, diagnosing, and managing outpatients and inpatients.
  • Conducting ward rounds.
  • Performing on-call duties according to the duty roster.
  • Providing emergency medical management.
  • Performing minor surgical procedures according to their skills and level of competence.
  • Assisting with major surgical procedures where appropriately qualified.
  • Supervising and mentoring Assistant Medical Officers, interns, and students.
  • Ensuring proper documentation and maintenance of patient records.
  • Maintaining patient confidentiality.
  • Ensuring compliance with Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) standards.
  • Supporting quality assurance activities.
  • Participating in clinical audits.
  • Participating in community outreach services.
  • Taking part in research activities.
  • Participating in Continuing Medical Education (CME).
  • Performing other related duties assigned by the supervisor or Head of Department.
