Position Details

  • Position: Software Engineer
  • Location: Dar es Salaam, Tanzania
  • Employment Type: Full-Time

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Designing, developing, testing, and maintaining software applications and services.
  • Developing and optimizing applications for Linux-based environments.
  • Installing, configuring, administering, and troubleshooting Linux servers.
  • Writing clean, maintainable, and well-documented code following software engineering best practices.
  • Developing shell scripts and automation tools to improve operational efficiency.
  • Monitoring application performance and resolving software and system issues.
  • Collaborating with DevOps, Quality Assurance (QA), and Infrastructure teams to support reliable deployments.
  • Participating in code reviews and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Managing source code using Git and contributing to CI/CD processes.
  • Implementing Linux security best practices.
  • Troubleshooting production issues and providing timely solutions.

Required Qualifications

Applicants should possess:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • At least three (3) years of professional software development experience.
  • Strong knowledge of Linux operating systems such as Ubuntu, Red Hat, CentOS, Rocky Linux, or similar.
  • Proficiency in one or more programming languages including:
    • Python
    • Java
    • C++
    • Go
    • C#
  • Experience with Bash or shell scripting.
  • Good understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
  • Experience using Git for version control.
  • Familiarity with REST APIs and web services.
  • Experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, or SQL Server.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Candidates with the following qualifications will have an added advantage:

  • Experience with Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Knowledge of cloud platforms including AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
  • Experience with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, GitLab CI, or GitHub Actions.
  • Familiarity with configuration management tools including Ansible, Puppet, or Chef.

  • Linux certifications such as RHCSA, RHCE, LPIC, or CompTIA Linux+.
