Job Summary
The Assistant Environmental Health Officer Grade II will support the implementation of environmental health services at ward level. The role focuses on disease prevention and control, environmental sanitation, community health education, inspection of food premises, and enforcement of environmental health laws and regulations.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
The appointed officer will be responsible for:
- Controlling and preventing disease outbreaks within the community.
- Fighting and controlling insects and animals that spread diseases (vectors).
- Supervising the burial of unidentified bodies and bodies resulting from infectious diseases.
- Preparing various environmental health reports at ward level and submitting them to the relevant authorities.
- Collecting and analyzing environmental health data at ward level and providing feedback for appropriate action.
- Providing environmental health education to the community.
- Inspecting environments and premises where food is prepared to ensure public safety and community health.
- Enforcing environmental health laws at ward level and supporting communities in developing by-laws.
- Mobilizing the community to improve water sources and environmental sanitation.
- Mobilizing the community on the implementation of Primary Health Care services at ward level.
- Performing any other related duties assigned by the supervisor in line with the officer’s education, experience, and skills.
Qualifications and Requirements
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Must hold a Diploma in Environmental Health Science from a Government-recognized institution; and
- Must be registered with the Environmental Health Professionals Board.
Remuneration
Successful candidates will be paid according to the TGHS B salary scale.
