The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) has announced two senior management vacancies at its National Office in Pretoria. The positions are aimed at suitably qualified professionals with legal, managerial and investigative experience.
IPID states that it seeks to promote representivity in terms of race, gender and disability through the filling of posts. 1. Director: Legal and Litigation Advisory Services

Requirements
Applicants must have:
- An LLB or B Proc degree at NQF Level 7, recognised by SAQA.
- At least five years’ experience at middle or senior managerial level.
- A valid driver’s licence.
- Admission as an Attorney or Advocate, with relevant experience as a practising Attorney or Advocate.
- At least three years’ experience in civil and labour relations.
Applicants should have knowledge of the IPID Act, PFMA and other legislation and regulations governing the Public Service. Knowledge of corporate and administrative law, South African law and civil procedures is also required. Experience in litigation involving criminal and civil matters, particularly corruption and systemic corruption matters, is required. Applicants should also have knowledge of legislation drafting, subordinate legislation, investigations and Standard Operating Procedures.
Key competencies include strategic leadership, analytical thinking, planning and organising, problem-solving, decision-making, project management, change management, legal interpretation, communication, report writing, negotiation, research, financial management, honesty and integrity.
Duties
The successful candidate will provide strategic direction to the legal and litigation component and contribute to strategic planning, operational planning and performance monitoring. The position will also involve developing and maintaining legal policies, systems and processes, providing legal advice and compliance services, managing administrative appeals and litigation, and coordinating civil, labour and arbitration matters.

Duties
- The successful candidate will provide strategic leadership and planning for the Legal and Investigation Advisory Services unit.
- Responsibilities include developing and maintaining legal policies, systems and internal controls, drafting practice notes and directives, providing legal opinions and advice, conducting legal research and supporting legislative development.
- The Director will also provide legal oversight and guidance on investigations, manage applications for policy powers in accordance with legal mandates, oversee administrative appeals and ensure compliance with legal and ethical requirements.
- Additional responsibilities include overseeing PAIA requests, conducting workshops and training on legal practice notes and directives, promoting legal awareness and engaging with internal and external stakeholders.

- Foreign qualifications must be accompanied by an evaluation certificate from the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) when the applicant is shortlisted.
