Feed the Children is inviting applications for the position of Regional Director for Africa, a senior leadership role responsible for guiding the organization’s programs and strategic initiatives across the African region. The Regional Director will provide overall leadership, direction, and management for the Africa program teams. The successful candidate will also be part of the Senior Management Team, contributing to global strategy development and representing the organization at international platforms. This position reports directly to the President of Feed International.

Role Overview

The Regional Director will lead the development and execution of regional strategies that strengthen program effectiveness and organizational impact. The role involves working closely with country offices, partners, donors, and stakeholders to ensure that initiatives across Africa deliver measurable results and contribute to the organization’s mission of improving the lives of vulnerable communities.

Key Responsibilities

Program Leadership and Management

The Regional Director will oversee the planning, implementation, and monitoring of regional programs. Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing and implementing a comprehensive regional strategy and operational plan
  • Providing leadership in program design, budgeting, monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEAL)
  • Establishing program goals, performance indicators, and accountability systems
  • Supporting program teams to maintain high standards of project management and delivery
  • Leading organizational change initiatives to improve efficiency and agility
  • Strengthening coordination and communication between regional and country teams
  • Managing and mentoring high-performing staff to promote leadership development
  • Ensuring compliance with organizational policies related to safety, child protection, and safeguarding

The Regional Director will also guide program reporting processes and ensure that donor requirements and agreements are fulfilled in a timely and effective manner.

Business Development and External Engagement

The role includes strengthening the organization’s presence and partnerships across Africa. Responsibilities include:

  • Leading resource mobilization and fundraising initiatives
  • Supporting proposal development, grant planning, and donor engagement
  • Expanding partnerships with governments, international organizations, and development partners
  • Representing the organization at regional and global forums
  • Strengthening relationships with existing donors while cultivating new funding opportunities

Financial Oversight

The Regional Director will ensure financial sustainability and accountability of regional programs by:

  • Working with finance teams to coordinate grant funding and program budgets
  • Developing and managing the annual regional operating budget
  • Reviewing financial reports and addressing budget variances
  • Ensuring efficient allocation and use of program resources

Knowledge Management and Learning

Another key responsibility of the role is to strengthen learning systems within the organization. This includes:

  • Developing systems to capture, share, and apply program knowledge
  • Promoting research, innovation, and evidence-based programming
  • Ensuring program outcomes are evaluated and used to inform policy and strategy
  • Encouraging collaboration and knowledge exchange across teams and regions

Qualifications and Experience

  • A Master’s degree in international development, public health, social sciences, or a related field
  • At least 10 years of experience managing NGO programs and operations
  • Minimum 8 years of experience working in developing countries
