The National Institute of Transport (NIT), in partnership with the Dar Rapid Transit Agency (UDA-RT), has officially announced a special professional training programme for drivers who wish to operate Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) vehicles, commonly known as Mwendo Kasi buses. This initiative is aimed at equipping qualified drivers with the essential skills, knowledge, and practical competence required to provide safe, efficient, and customer-focused transport services within the rapidly growing BRT system.

Purpose of the Training

The main objective of this programme is to prepare competent and professional drivers capable of handling BRT buses in accordance with established operational standards. Through this training, participants will gain a deep understanding of:

  • Safe and modern driving techniques for high-capacity buses
  • Compliance with BRT operational procedures and regulations
  • Effective customer care and passenger handling
  • Use of transport technologies and intelligent transport systems
  • Proper response to emergency situations

This structured approach ensures that successful trainees are not only skilled drivers but also ambassadors of quality service in urban public transport.

Training Venue and Duration

The training will take place at the National Institute of Transport (NIT), Mabibo Campus in Dar es Salaam.
It will run for a period of six (6) days, starting from 23rd to 28th February 2026.

  • Possess a PSV (Public Service Vehicle) certificate from a recognised training institution
  • Be aged between 25 and 50 years
  • Have a minimum of three (3) years of driving experience or more

These requirements are designed to ensure that only experienced and responsible drivers are selected for the programme.

Employment Opportunity After Training

Graduates of this special training will have the opportunity to be considered for employment within the BRT system. However, it is important to note that recruitment will depend on the availability of positions and the fulfilment of the specific employment conditions set by the responsible authorities.

A Gateway to Professional Growth

This programme represents a significant opportunity for drivers seeking to advance their careers in the public transport sector. With the continuous expansion of the BRT system in Dar es Salaam, professionally trained drivers are in high demand to maintain service quality, safety, and efficiency.
