NMISA Radioactivity Standards Internship 2026
The NMISA Radioactivity Standards Internship is designed to provide practical workplace training in an accredited laboratory environment. Interns will support activities related to the development and maintenance of radioactivity measurement standards and the provision of related measurement services.
Successful candidates will gain exposure to technical laboratory activities, measurement work, research, method development, analysis and client-related services while working under established laboratory procedures and quality systems.

Minimum Qualification
Applicants must have a:
- BSc Honours degree specialising in Radiochemistry or Nuclear Physics.
Knowledge and Technical Requirements
Applicants should have knowledge of the operation of radiation detection instruments.
Knowledge or experience in the following areas will be advantageous:
- Gamma-ray spectrometry
- Liquid scintillation analysis
- Alpha-spectrometry
- Radioactive decay processes
- Radiation interactions with matter
- Radiation protection

Key Responsibilities
Successful interns will work within an accredited laboratory and will be expected to comply with NMISA policies, procedures and its Total Quality Management System. Their responsibilities may include assisting with:
- Development and maintenance of radioactivity measurement standards.
- Development of new measurement capabilities.
- Client-related measurement activities.
- Analysis and checking of measurement results.
- Generation of certificates.
- Preparation and review of laboratory procedures.
- Maintenance of detailed laboratory records.

NMISA Internship Monthly Stipend
Successful interns will receive a monthly stipend of between: R7,478 and R8,878 per month, The exact stipend will depend on the applicant’s qualification level.
