Havil Pre and Primary School is urgently looking for a qualified and passionate Primary School English Teacher to join its academic team. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced teacher who is committed to helping young learners build strong English literacy and communication skills from Grade 1 to Grade 6, following the Tanzanian primary school curriculum and competency-based education principles.
Job Purpose
The main purpose of this role is to effectively teach English language to pupils in Grades 1–6, helping learners develop competence in listening, speaking, reading, writing, grammar, vocabulary, and comprehension. The teacher will also support pupils’ overall confidence, creativity, and communication abilities in English.
Key Responsibilities
1. Teaching and Learning
- Plan and deliver engaging English lessons for Grades 1–6.
- Teach phonics, reading, grammar, writing, vocabulary, and comprehension.
- Prepare lesson plans, schemes of work, and appropriate teaching aids.
- Apply learner-centred and competency-based teaching strategies.
- Differentiate lessons to meet the needs of mixed-ability learners.
- Use creative teaching methods to improve pupils’ interest and participation in English.
2. Assessment and Evaluation
- Prepare and administer tests, quizzes, assignments, and class exercises.
- Assess pupils’ reading, writing, spelling, and oral communication skills.
- Provide constructive feedback to pupils to support improvement.
- Maintain accurate academic records and learner progress reports.
- Identify learning gaps and provide remedial support where needed.
3. Classroom Management
- Maintain a safe, inclusive, and well-disciplined learning environment.
- Apply effective classroom control strategies suitable for young learners.
- Encourage confidence, participation, and regular use of English in class.
- Promote positive behaviour, respect, and good learning habits.
4. Curriculum and Professional Duties
- Implement the national curriculum and follow school academic policies.
- Participate in English co-curricular activities such as reading clubs, spelling bees, and debates.
- Collaborate with other teachers and school leadership to strengthen learning outcomes.
- Attend staff meetings, workshops, and professional development trainings.
- Support school programs and contribute to academic improvement initiatives.
5. Learner Development
- Help pupils develop strong literacy, communication, and comprehension skills.
- Encourage reading culture, storytelling, and creative writing.
- Promote moral values, confidence, discipline, and critical thinking.
- Support learners’ overall academic and personal growth through guidance and motivation.
Minimum Academic Qualifications
Applicants must have:
- Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Education (English, Primary Education, or a related field).
Experience
- At least 2 years of teaching experience in a primary school environment.
- Experience teaching Grades 1–6 will be an added advantage.
Required Competencies
The ideal candidate should demonstrate:
- Strong command of written and spoken English.
- Good knowledge of phonics and early literacy instruction.
- Excellent lesson planning and classroom management skills.
- Ability to teach mixed-ability pupils effectively.
- Understanding of competency-based teaching methods.
