Job Summary
The General Cashier plays a vital role in managing all cash-related transactions within the hotel. The position ensures that guest payments, cash drops, and other financial activities are handled accurately and securely.
The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring proper reconciliation of transactions, and supporting the finance team in maintaining balanced cash flow while delivering excellent customer service to guests.
Key Responsibilities
1. Guest Transactions
- Process payments from guests for services such as accommodation, food and beverages, retail purchases, and other hotel services.
- Issue receipts, refunds, and change promptly while ensuring transaction accuracy.
- Handle multiple payment methods including cash, credit cards, debit cards, and mobile payments.
2. Cash Management
- Maintain a balanced cash drawer and ensure all transactions are properly recorded.
- Reconcile cash drawers at the start and end of each shift.
- Report any discrepancies to the supervisor immediately.
- Follow strict cash handling procedures and security protocols to safeguard funds.
3. Billing and Payment Processing
- Verify guest bills to ensure all charges are accurate.
- Apply discounts, promotional offers, or credits where applicable.
- Manage guest folios and ensure timely posting of all transactions.
- Collaborate with front desk staff to resolve billing discrepancies.
4. Customer Service
- Welcome guests warmly and assist with payment-related inquiries.
- Handle payment issues or complaints professionally and efficiently.
- Provide clear information about hotel services, charges, and payment policies.
5. Reporting and Documentation
- Prepare and submit daily cashier reports to the finance or accounting department.
- Assist with cash drops and maintain accurate financial documentation for reconciliation.
6. Collaboration
- Work closely with hotel departments such as housekeeping, food & beverage, and the front desk to ensure smooth financial transactions.
- Provide support to colleagues during busy periods.
7. Compliance
- Follow company policies, financial procedures, and legal regulations related to cash handling.
- Maintain confidentiality of guest financial information at all times.
Qualifications and Requirements
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
Experience
- At least 2–3 years of experience as a cashier in a hospitality or customer service environment is preferred.
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in Point-of-Sale (POS) systems and cash registers.
- Basic computer skills and familiarity with financial transaction systems.
Soft Skills
- Strong communication and customer service abilities.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to remain calm and efficient in busy or stressful situations.
- Strong integrity, reliability, and trustworthiness.
Languages
- Basic English proficiency is required.
