Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Conducting underground, shaft, and surface inspections and audits relating to occupational hygiene.
- Monitoring occupational hygiene exposures, stressors, and workplace health hazards.
- Taking enforcement action where mining operations fail to comply with health and safety regulations.
- Investigating mine-related accidents, complaints, and legal contraventions.
- Analyzing accident trends to identify high-risk mining operations.
- Serving on boards of examiners where required.
- Providing technical input on:
- Mine closures
- Prospecting rights
- Mining rights and permits
- Environmental Management Programmes (EMPs)
- Township development
- Contributing to regional reports and the revision of mining regulations, standards, and guidelines.
- Assessing applications for exemptions, approvals, and permissions relating to occupational hygiene.
Qualifications
Applicants must possess:
- National Diploma in Occupational Hygiene or Environmental Health (NQF Level 6).
- Certificate in Mine Environmental Control.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in Occupational Hygiene.
- Valid driver’s licence.
Applicants should also have knowledge of:
- Mine Health and Safety Act and Regulations.
- Hazard identification and risk management.
- Public Service Code and DMPR policies.
- Occupational hygiene legislation and enforcement procedures.
