Job Summary
The Experiential Trainer will provide practical, hands-on training to women and youth aged between 18 and 35 years participating in the WYEEFIMA Programme. The training will focus on hygienic fish handling, fish preservation technologies, value addition, packaging, storage, and post-harvest practices aimed at improving product quality, market competitiveness, and income opportunities.
For Zanzibar-based activities, the trainer will also deliver training on seaweed processing and value addition.
Key Responsibilities
The successful consultant will:
- Deliver practical training on hygienic fish handling and value addition techniques.
- Train participants on proper fish handling practices to maintain product quality.
- Demonstrate market-oriented fish value addition methods.
- Conduct training on fish preservation technologies, including:
- Chilled fish products.
- Frozen fish products.
- Sun-dried fish.
- Salted fish products.
- Smoked fish products.
- Deep-fried fish products.
- Other suitable preservation techniques.
- Provide training on seaweed processing and value addition for Zanzibar participants.
- Train participants on appropriate packaging, product labelling, and storage methods.
- Explain packaging requirements for different value-added products.
- Facilitate practical, experience-based learning sessions.
- Train between 20 and 40 participants within four days.
- Train at least 80 WYEEFIMA participants within 40 days.
- Deliver practical sessions on post-harvest fisheries management.
- Prepare and submit a comprehensive final training report covering:
- Training activities conducted.
- Number of participants trained.
- Training outcomes.
- Challenges encountered.
- Recommendations.
Qualifications and Experience
Applicants should possess:
- Extensive experience delivering community-based training programmes.
- At least three (3) years of practical experience in hygienic fish handling.
- At least three (3) years of practical experience in fish value addition.
- At least three (3) years of practical experience in fish product trading.
- At least three (3) years of experience in post-harvest fisheries management.
- Ability to deliver training in Kiswahili and/or English.
