Internship Purpose
The Environmental and Social Safeguards Intern will support the implementation of WWF’s Environmental and Social Safeguards Framework (ESSF) across conservation projects in Tanzania.
Working closely with landscape teams, community engagement staff, and monitoring specialists, the intern will assist with:
- Environmental and social risk screening.
- Stakeholder engagement.
- Safeguards monitoring.
- Grievance redress mechanisms.
- Compliance with WWF safeguards standards.
- Environmental and social performance reporting.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will:
- Support implementation of WWF’s Environmental and Social Safeguards Framework across conservation projects.
- Work with landscape teams to integrate environmental and social safeguards throughout project planning, implementation, and monitoring.
- Assist with environmental and social screening processes.
- Support environmental and social impact assessments.
- Help develop, implement, monitor, and review environmental and social mitigation measures.
- Assist project teams in updating Stakeholder Engagement Plans (SEP).
- Support stakeholder consultation activities.
- Assist with implementation and monitoring of Grievance Redress Mechanisms (GRM).
- Monitor the effectiveness of environmental and social mitigation measures.
- Support preparation and maintenance of safeguards documentation.
- Assist landscape teams in applying Free, Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC) where appropriate.
- Contribute to safeguards awareness programmes, capacity building, and training activities.
- Promote lessons learned and good environmental and social practices.
- Perform other duties assigned by the Environmental and Social Safeguards Advisor.
Required Qualifications
Applicants should possess:
- A Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent qualification in:
- Environmental Management
- Environmental Science
- Conservation
- Natural Resource Management
- Risk Management
- Or another related field
Experience Required
Candidates should have practical experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Environmental and social safeguards.
- Environmental and social impact assessments.
- Sustainable development.
- Community engagement.
- Environmental management.
- Conservation programmes.
- Natural resource management.
Experience through internships, volunteer work, research projects, or field assignments will be an added advantage.
Required Skills and Competencies
