Job Purpose

The Accountant will support effective financial decision-making by accurately recording, reconciling, and reporting financial transactions. The successful candidate will also ensure compliance with Tanzanian statutory requirements, accounting standards, and the company’s internal financial control procedures.

Key Responsibilities

Accounts and Financial Operations

  • Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable.
  • Perform supplier and customer reconciliations.
  • Process supplier payments, staff reimbursements, imprest, and expense claims.
  • Prepare and issue customer sales invoices.
  • Allocate customer receipts and follow up on outstanding receivables.
  • Prepare customer statements and aging reports.

Banking and Cash Management

  • Perform daily and monthly bank reconciliations.
  • Reconcile mobile money and electronic payment transactions.
  • Manage petty cash, imprest, and retirements.

Taxation and Statutory Compliance

  • Prepare VAT, PAYE, and Withholding Tax filings.
  • Maintain tax schedules and reconciliations.
  • Support Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) audits.
  • Handle statutory correspondence.

Financial Reporting

  • Maintain accurate general ledger balances.
  • Prepare supplier, customer, and intercompany reconciliations.
  • Support month-end and year-end closing activities.
  • Assist in preparing management accounts and financial reports.

Audit and Internal Controls

  • Support both internal and external audits.
  • Prepare audit schedules and supporting documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and internal controls.

Stock and Inventory Management

  • Maintain accurate inventory records.
  • Monitor stock movements and reconciliations.
  • Investigate stock variances.
  • Support stock audit activities.

Qualifications

Applicants should possess:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • CPA Level II qualification (minimum requirement).
  • CPA Level III qualification will be an added advantage.

Experience Required

Candidates should have:

  • Two to four years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience using accounting systems.
  • Good understanding of financial reporting and reconciliations.
