Job Summary
The Internal Auditor will be responsible for evaluating the University’s internal control systems, reviewing financial and operational processes, ensuring compliance with policies and regulations, and recommending improvements that enhance operational efficiency, accountability, and risk management.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Participating in the design and improvement of internal control systems in line with University policies.
- Reviewing and evaluating internal controls to ensure accounting and operational systems produce accurate, timely, and reliable information.
- Conducting regular audits of accounting records and operational activities across the University.
- Ensuring compliance with established policies, procedures, regulations, and internal controls.
- Monitoring adherence to approved financial standards, regulations, and delegated financial authority.
- Verifying University income from its source through to bank deposits.
- Confirming that expenditures are properly authorized, accurately recorded, and charged to the correct accounts.
- Advising the Vice Chancellor on improvements to accounting systems and internal controls.
- Maintaining effective working relationships with external auditors and facilitating external audit activities.
- Consolidating management responses to audit findings.
- Following up on the implementation of audit recommendations and agreed corrective actions.
Qualifications and Requirements
Applicants should possess:
- Full professional accounting qualifications such as:
- CPA (T)
- ACCA
- ACA
- A minimum of five (5) years of relevant working experience in a similar position.
- Strong knowledge of internal control systems and audit practices.
- Experience in reviewing and evaluating financial records.
- Good understanding of regulatory compliance and financial governance.
- Ability to identify operational risks and recommend effective improvements.
- Knowledge of accounting systems and financial controls.
- Experience working with external auditors.
- Ability to coordinate management responses to audit findings and monitor implementation of recommendations.
