Job Summary

The Excavator and Heavy-Duty Vehicle Mechanic will be responsible for diagnosing, maintaining, servicing, and repairing excavators, heavy-duty trucks, and other industrial machinery. The role ensures that hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, and diesel engine systems operate safely and efficiently according to manufacturer specifications.

Key Responsibilities

Successful candidates will be responsible for:

  • Diagnosing and troubleshooting electrical and mechanical faults using diagnostic equipment.
  • Inspecting, repairing, and maintaining excavators, heavy-duty trucks, and other mining equipment.
  • Performing major and minor repairs on diesel engines, transmissions, driveline systems, and air brake systems.
  • Carrying out preventive maintenance including oil changes, lubrication, inspections, and replacement of worn components.
  • Repairing damaged structural components through welding and fabrication using electric welding equipment and oxy-acetylene cutting tools.
  • Ensuring compliance with workplace safety standards and proper handling of hazardous materials.
  • Maintaining spare parts inventory and preparing accurate maintenance and repair records.

Qualifications and Skills

Applicants should possess:

  • High School Certificate or completion of a relevant vocational or technical training programme.
  • Proven experience in heavy-duty vehicle or excavator maintenance.
  • Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, pneumatic systems, and heavy equipment powertrains.
  • Good troubleshooting and mechanical diagnostic skills.
  • Physical fitness and ability to work in demanding workshop and field environments.
  • A valid heavy-duty commercial driving licence (Class A or Class C) will be an added advantage.
