About Africa Social Security Association (ASSA)
The Africa Social Security Association (ASSA) is a continental membership-based organization headquartered in Arusha, Tanzania. Established by social security institutions across Africa, ASSA promotes collaboration among its members to strengthen social security systems and expand social protection across the continent.
The Association works closely with member institutions, governments, and development partners to enhance governance, knowledge sharing, and capacity building in the social security sector.
Available Position
ASSA is currently recruiting for the following position:
- Legal Officer (Volunteer)
- Department: Legal Department
- Duty Station: Arusha, Tanzania
- Employment Type: Full-time Volunteer
- Reports To: Secretary General
Candidates based in Arusha are preferred.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will provide legal, administrative, and advisory support to the ASSA Secretariat. Responsibilities include:
- Conducting legal research and providing advice on ASSA’s statutes, governance instruments, and by-laws.
- Drafting, reviewing, and managing contracts, memoranda of understanding (MoUs), and partnership agreements.
- Supporting the Secretary General in preparing legal documentation for Governing Council and General Assembly meetings.
- Monitoring compliance with Tanzanian legal and regulatory requirements applicable to the Secretariat.
- Reviewing policies, procedures, and official correspondence to ensure legal compliance.
- Maintaining legal records, including agreements, resolutions, and institutional documents.
- Liaising with member institutions and external legal advisors when required.
Qualifications and Experience
Applicants should meet the following requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Laws (LLB) from a recognized university.
- Admission to the Bar in a jurisdiction recognized by ASSA.
- 0–2 years of post-qualification legal experience.
- Fresh graduates with excellent academic performance are encouraged to apply.
- Working knowledge of institutional, contract, or corporate law.
- Knowledge of social security or labour law will be an added advantage.
- Excellent legal drafting, research, and analytical skills.
- Fluency in English.
- High level of integrity, professionalism, and attention to detail.
