Job Purpose
The Public Relations Officer will support the implementation of TAZARA’s corporate communication and public relations functions. The successful candidate will be responsible for promoting the organization’s image through effective media engagement, stakeholder communication, information dissemination, and brand management initiatives aimed at enhancing visibility and public confidence in TAZARA’s operations.
Key Responsibilities
The selected candidate will undertake a wide range of communication and public relations activities, including:
- Coordinating media relations activities and ensuring timely dissemination of accurate information to the public and stakeholders.
- Preparing and distributing press releases, speeches, newsletters, feature articles, public notices, and other communication materials.
- Monitoring media coverage and public perception of TAZARA and preparing reports and appropriate responses when necessary.
- Supporting corporate branding, publicity campaigns, marketing initiatives, and stakeholder engagement programs.
- Coordinating public events, exhibitions, trade fairs, official visits, media briefings, and corporate social responsibility activities.
- Managing digital communication platforms, including social media accounts and online engagement initiatives.
- Building and maintaining strong relationships with government institutions, media organizations, customers, development partners, and other stakeholders.
- Supporting crisis communication efforts during operational incidents or disruptions.
- Ensuring consistency in the application of TAZARA’s corporate identity and communication standards across regional operations.
Qualifications and Experience
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Possession of Form IV and/or Form VI Secondary School Certificates.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Public Relations, Mass Communication, or a related field from a recognized institution.
- At least three (3) years of relevant experience in public relations, media relations, corporate communications, or stakeholder engagement.
- Must not be more than 45 years of age.
- Strong knowledge of digital communication tools, social media management, and Microsoft Office applications.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage communication during crisis situations.
Additional qualifications that will be considered an advantage include:
- Postgraduate qualifications in a relevant field.
- Knowledge of graphic design software and multimedia communication tools.
