Through its partnership with Temeke Municipal Council, the project aims to strengthen referral systems, rehabilitation services, and inclusive support for children with sensory impairments in local communities.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Sensory Screening Activities
Successful candidates will:
- Coordinate sensory screening conducted by nurses and Community Health Workers (CHWs)
- Support hearing and vision assessments
- Compile and submit screening reports to relevant authorities
- Coordinate first-stage risk factor screening activities
Early Intervention Services
Occupational Therapists will also be responsible for:
- Conducting functional assessments for children
- Facilitating referrals for Early Intervention services
- Providing rehabilitation and sensory stimulation services
- Supporting children according to approved protocols and SOPs
- Advising families on assistive devices and learning materials
- Training caregivers on early stimulation techniques and daily living skills
- Developing Individual Development Plans (IDPs)
- Conducting quarterly home visits
- Providing counselling services to children and families
- Working with multidisciplinary teams including physiotherapists, social workers, and medical practitioners
- Supporting transition of children into pre-primary and primary education
Early Intervention Unit Management
Additional responsibilities include:
- Coordinating daily operations of the Early Intervention Unit
- Managing therapy equipment and office supplies
- Maintaining asset registers
- Ensuring proper maintenance of screening and therapy equipment
- Managing patient records while maintaining confidentiality
- Preparing weekly and monthly reports for stakeholders
Community Awareness and Outreach
The selected candidates will help organize:
- Community sensitization programmes
- Awareness campaigns
- Outreach screening activities in collaboration with health facilities
Other Responsibilities
Candidates will also:
- Perform additional duties assigned by supervisors
- Follow professional ethics and codes of conduct
- Adhere to safeguarding, confidentiality, and data protection policies
- Report issues affecting service delivery or institutional reputation
Qualifications and Experience
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Therapy from a recognized institution
- Registration with the relevant professional board where applicable
- Experience working with children, especially children with disabilities or sensory impairments, will be an added advantage
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work effectively in both community and health facility environments
Salary and Benefits
The position offers:
- Gross monthly allowance of TZS 800,000
- Monthly payments upon submission of approved timesheets
- Transport and meal support
- Statutory deductions including PAYE as per Tanzania Revenue Authority regulations
