The University of Dodoma (UDOM), in collaboration with the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM) and the Ministry of Health Tanzania, has announced an exciting opportunity for qualified professionals to join the SAFARI Project as Research Assistants. This initiative—AI-Facilitated Ultrasound Feasibility and Assessment of Resources and Integration (SAFARI)—aims to strengthen maternal healthcare services through innovative technology and research-driven solutions.
A total of eight (8) Research Assistant positions are available, with one post allocated to each council in the Dodoma Region. Project Overview
The SAFARI Project focuses on integrating AI-assisted obstetric ultrasound into routine healthcare systems. Research Assistants (RAs) will play a critical role in implementing project activities at the grassroots level, ensuring smooth coordination between health facilities and the central research team.
They will be directly involved in data collection, supporting healthcare workers, and maintaining high standards of research ethics and data quality.
Duty Stations
Each selected candidate will be assigned to one of the following councils in Dodoma Region:
- Dodoma City Council
- Bahi District
- Chamwino District
- Chemba District
- Kondoa District
- Kondoa Town Council
- Kongwa District
- Mpwapwa District
Applicants must clearly indicate their preferred council when applying. Priority will be given to candidates residing within the selected district to enhance local engagement and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
Successful candidates will undertake a variety of responsibilities, including:
- Collecting and managing obstetric ultrasound data using approved digital tools
- Integrating project workflows within Reproductive and Child Health (RCH) services
- Coordinating project activities within antenatal care (ANC) clinics
- Supporting healthcare providers in using AI-assisted ultrasound systems
- Preparing and submitting weekly progress reports
- Ensuring strict adherence to research protocols and ethical standards
- Participating in training sessions, supervision visits, and review meetings
Qualifications and Experience
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must hold a Bachelor’s degree in one of the following fields:
- Nursing or Midwifery
- Public Health
- Medicine
- Health Information Sciences
- Or any closely related discipline
Essential Skills
- Experience in research or public health data collection
- Strong communication skills in both Kiswahili and English
- Ability to work effectively in healthcare settings
- Proficiency in digital data collection tools (e.g., tablets, mobile apps)
- Solid understanding of research ethics and confidentiality
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in maternal and child health (MCH) programs
- Familiarity with antenatal care services
- Background in field-based research projects
- Skills in both qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis
- Ability to work independently and travel within assigned districts
Terms of Service
The positions are offered on a contract basis for an initial period of three (3) months, with the possibility of extension depending on performance and project funding availability. Remuneration will be competitive and aligned with UDOM regulations, taking into account qualifications and experience.
