Position Overview
The Human Resources Manager will serve as both a strategic partner and operational leader within AKES,T. The role focuses on strengthening the institution’s human capital systems to attract, develop, and retain high-quality staff, particularly local educators and professionals. This position plays a critical role in supporting the school’s mission by building a culture of excellence, inclusion, and continuous improvement across all levels of staff.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for a wide range of strategic and operational HR functions, including:
Strategic HR Leadership
- Develop and implement a comprehensive HR roadmap aligned with the institution’s mission and growth strategy.
- Lead succession planning initiatives to ensure leadership continuity across schools and departments.
- Advise senior leadership and the Board on organizational design and change management.
- Contribute to AKDN-wide HR initiatives such as HRIS implementation and compensation frameworks.
Talent Acquisition and Workforce Planning
- Oversee full-cycle recruitment for academic and non-academic staff.
- Ensure workforce planning supports current needs and future expansion, including new campuses and digital transformation.
- Support localization strategies and assess expatriate staffing requirements.
Talent Development and Performance Management
- Collaborate with academic leadership to strengthen professional development programs.
- Implement structured performance appraisal systems and mentoring frameworks.
- Design career pathways for local staff to progress into leadership roles within the AKDN network.
HR Systems and Compliance
- Manage HR Information Systems (HRIS), ensuring data accuracy, confidentiality, and effective reporting.
- Oversee payroll reconciliation, leave management, and employee wellness programs.
- Ensure full compliance with Tanzanian Labour Laws and international education standards.
- Lead safeguarding compliance and data protection initiatives.
Governance and Reporting
- Serve as Secretary to the Human Resources Committee of the Board.
- Coordinate internal and external audits and ensure timely implementation of HR-related audit actions.
- Provide analytical HR reports to support strategic decision-making.
Candidate Requirements
Applicants must meet the following qualifications and experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management, Business Administration, or Education Management.
- A Master’s degree and/or professional HR certification (e.g., SHRM, PHRi) is strongly preferred.
- 8–10 years of progressive HR experience, including at least 4 years in a senior leadership role.
- Strong experience in the education sector or professional service organizations is highly desirable.
- In-depth knowledge of Tanzanian Labour Laws and HR best practices.
- Proficiency in HRIS systems, data analytics, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong leadership, interpersonal, and analytical skills.
- Proven ability to work effectively in multicultural and international environments.
- Strong ethical standards, integrity, and commitment to education and community development.
- Data-driven mindset with strong business acumen.
