Internship Overview

Electoral Commission of South Africa is offering a 24-month Internship Programme in Civic Education and Research.

This opportunity is ideal for graduates who want to gain experience within a Chapter 9 constitutional institution, supporting democratic processes, civic education, and stakeholder engagement.

  • Position: Intern – Civic Education & Research (X2 Posts)
  • Duration: 24 Months
  • Stipend: R10 144.04 per month
  • Department: Outreach (Civic Education & Research)

Internship Responsibilities

Successful candidates will gain exposure and assist with:

  • General administrative duties for Civic Education and Research
  • Supporting the Outreach Management System (OMS)
  • Assisting with stakeholder management and coordination
  • Compiling and distributing documents to stakeholders
  • Preparing reports, presentations, and taking minutes
  • Maintaining filing systems and correspondence
  • Coordinating outreach and research activities
  • Supporting logistics and general office functions

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must:

  • Have Matric / Grade 12 / N3 / NTC Level 4
  • Hold a Bachelor’s Degree or National Diploma in:
    • Public Administration
    • Political Sciences
  • Be 35 years or younger
  • Be unemployed
  • Must not have:
    • Previously worked in their field of study
    • Participated in an internship programme before

Required Skills and Competencies

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Computer literacy (Microsoft Office)
  • Ability to learn new systems and software
  • Good time management and organisational skills
  • Ability to work independently and in a team
  • Professionalism and strong interpersonal skills

Important Conditions

  • Preference will be given to people with disabilities
