Position Overview

Job Purpose

The EHS Coordinator will play a key role in maintaining a safe, hygienic, and environmentally compliant workplace across Gwambina’s catering and hospitality operations. This includes overseeing food safety practices, enforcing health and safety standards, and ensuring compliance with environmental regulations.

Key Responsibilities

1. Health, Safety & Hygiene Compliance

  • Ensure adherence to local health regulations and hospitality safety standards
  • Implement and monitor EHS policies across kitchens, dining areas, and storage facilities
  • Enforce hygiene standards aligned with HACCP principles

2. Food Safety Management

  • Monitor food handling, preparation, storage, and serving practices
  • Conduct regular inspections and food safety audits
  • Ensure proper temperature control and prevent cross-contamination

3. Risk Assessment & Hazard Control

  • Identify workplace hazards such as slips, burns, and equipment risks
  • Conduct risk assessments and implement preventive measures
  • Ensure safe operation of kitchen machinery and tools

4. Inspections & Audits

  • Perform routine inspections across all operational areas
  • Maintain detailed records and track corrective actions
  • Prepare reports for management review

5. Incident Reporting & Investigation

  • Investigate workplace incidents, injuries, and food contamination cases
  • Identify root causes and implement preventive strategies
  • Maintain incident logs and ensure compliance reporting

6. Training & Awareness

  • Conduct staff training on food hygiene, workplace safety, and emergency procedures
  • Deliver toolbox talks and refresher sessions
  • Promote a culture of safety and hygiene

7. PPE & Sanitation Management

  • Ensure proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Monitor cleaning schedules and sanitation practices
  • Maintain availability of hygiene and safety supplies

8. Emergency Preparedness

  • Support fire safety systems and evacuation plans
  • Conduct drills and emergency response training
  • Ensure readiness of first aid kits and fire extinguishers

9. Environmental Management

  • Monitor waste management and disposal practices
  • Promote recycling and sustainability initiatives
  • Ensure safe handling of cleaning chemicals

Qualifications & Experience

  • Degree or Diploma in Environmental Health and Safety, Food Science, Hospitality Management, or related field
  • 2–4 years of experience in EHS within catering, hotels, or restaurant environments
  • Strong knowledge of food safety and hygiene standards
  • Experience in hospitality operations is highly preferred
