SOS Children’s Villages in Zanzibar, a local non-governmental organization (NGO) affiliated with SOS Children’s Villages International, is re-advertising its vacancy for a Fundraising Coordinator. SOS Children’s Villages has been a global leader in child care for 64 years, operating in 135 countries worldwide. The organization focuses on protecting and supporting children who have lost parental care or are at risk of losing it. Its programs span across Tanzania, including Zanzibar, Arusha, Dar es Salaam, Mwanza, Dodoma, and Iringa.

About the Role

The Fundraising Coordinator will be based in Zanzibar and report to the Deputy National Director. This pivotal role supports the implementation of fundraising, donor engagement, sponsorship, and communication activities. Working closely under the guidance of the Head of Fund Development, the coordinator will manage daily fundraising operations, support proposal development, and maintain relationships with donors and sponsors. The role is essential for sustaining and expanding local and international funding while promoting SOS’s mission and brand.

Key Responsibilities

The Fundraising Coordinator will:

  • Support implementation of the national fundraising strategy and align Zanzibar’s annual and multi-year fundraising plans with organizational priorities.
  • Identify, coordinate, and manage corporate fundraising campaigns, workplace giving, and employee engagement activities.
  • Monitor fundraising performance, track budgets, plans, and financial forecasts.
  • Maintain donor relationships, prepare proposals, updates, and event reports, including contributions to the One Friend Objective (OFO) initiative.
  • Ensure accurate documentation, reporting, and compliance with SOS policies, child safeguarding, and gender standards.
  • Track national and regional funding trends and identify relevant grant opportunities.
  • Support public relations activities, including organizing donor visits, presentations, and creating communication materials such as newsletters, reports, and success stories.
  • Facilitate collaboration with NGOs and local CSOs to share best practices in fundraising and grant management.
  • Ensure proper recording and acknowledgment of funds and donations-in-kind, adhering to guidelines and reporting procedures.

Qualifications and Skills

The ideal candidate should have:

  • MBA in business, marketing, public relations, or a related field (preferred).
  • Minimum of five (5) years of professional experience in fundraising and development.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with donor databases is desirable.
  • Understanding of budgets and financial reporting.
  • Excellent multitasking, organizational, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work independently, inspire, and supervise volunteers.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including public speaking.
  • Knowledge of fundraising ethics and compliance standards.
