The Social Housing Regulatory Authority (SHRA) is inviting applications for its two-year Internship Programme aimed at providing unemployed young graduates below the age of 35 with valuable workplace experience. The internship is based in Johannesburg, South Africa, and is open to South African citizens only, Social Housing Regulatory Authority (SHRA) Internship Programme 2026.

SHRA is a Schedule 3A public entity under the Department of Human Settlements, established in terms of the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA), No. 1 of 1999. Its mandate is to regulate and support the provision of rental social housing for low to medium income earners, as guided by the Social Housing Act, No. 16 of 2008. This Young Graduate Programme is designed to provide practical exposure to graduates from Universities and Universities of Technology, helping them gain real work experience and improve their long-term employability.

This internship will support SHRA’s compliance and monitoring processes by assisting with reporting, verification, and internal assessments related to reporting entities.

Key Learning Areas / Responsibilities

Successful interns will be expected to support the unit with key duties such as:

  • Assisting in verifying information submitted by reporting entities against supporting documents
  • Supporting the preparation of individual assessment reports
  • Supporting the issuance of compliance notices and declarations
  • Assisting in preparing compliance monitoring reports
  • Assisting in assessing submissions made by reporting entities to address compliance conditions
  • Supporting the development of remedial action plans and capacity development
  • Participating in internal investigations and diagnostic assessments to identify areas of non-compliance
  • Acknowledging receipt of documents and updating the compliance database

Requirements

Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Grade 12 (Matric)
  • Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in one of the following fields:
    • Accounting Sciences
    • Accounting
    • Internal Auditing
    • Financial Management
    • Management Accounting

Skills and Competencies

Applicants should demonstrate the following:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to verify data accuracy
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
  • Strong computer literacy, especially Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Experience with data analytics software packages will be an added advantage
