The Office of the Prime Minister – Regional Administration and Local Government (OWM–TAMISEMI), through the Global Partnership for Education – Teacher Support Programme (GPE–TSP), is implementing various strategic interventions aimed at strengthening the teaching workforce in Tanzania.Tamisemi 1500 Volunteer Vacancies January 2026, One of the key interventions under this project is the coordination and engagement of Volunteer Teachers, particularly in areas facing critical shortages of qualified educators.
Through this initiative, OWM–TAMISEMI has officially announced 1,500 volunteer teaching positions for secondary schools under Local Government Authorities (LGAs) that experience the highest demand for teachers. The allocation of these teachers will follow the Secondary Teacher Allocation Protocol (S–TAP) to ensure equitable and needs-based distribution across the country.
Call for Qualified Tanzanians
OWM–TAMISEMI, through the GPE–TSP project, invites qualified Tanzanian citizens to apply for these 1,500 Volunteer Teaching positions as outlined in the announcement. The opportunities primarily target teachers in the following subject areas:
- Science and Technology (STEM)
- Vocational (Practical) Subjects
- Business Studies
This initiative aims to improve the quality of education by addressing teacher shortages in key subjects that are vital for national development
General Duties of a Volunteer Teacher
Successful applicants will be expected to perform the following general duties:
- Prepare work plans, lesson plans, lesson notes, and schemes of work, including other assigned responsibilities.
- Develop, use, and properly manage teaching and learning materials.
- Teach, assess students, and maintain accurate records of students’ academic progress.
- Supervise and monitor students’ attendance both at school and in classrooms.
- Guide students’ intellectual, physical, moral, and spiritual development, including providing counseling and guidance services.
- Offer professional and academic advice on education development matters.
- Manage and safeguard school facilities and property.
- Perform any other duties assigned by the Head of School in line with school responsibilities.
Available Positions and Qualifications
1. Volunteer Physics Teacher – 504 Positions
Applicants must have one of the following:
- A Bachelor with Education or Bachelor of Education with Physics from a recognized higher learning institution; or
- A non-education Bachelor’s degree in Physics plus a Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) from a recognized institution; or
- A Diploma in Education with Physics from a recognized teacher training college.
2. Volunteer Chemistry Teacher – 246 Positions
Applicants must have:
- A Bachelor with Education or Bachelor of Education with Chemistry; or
- A non-education Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry plus a PGDE; or
- A Diploma in Education with Chemistry from a recognized institution.
3. Volunteer Biology Teacher – 332 Positions
Applicants must possess:
- A Bachelor with Education or Bachelor of Education with Biology; or
- A non-education Bachelor’s degree in Biology plus a PGDE; or
- A Diploma in Education with Biology from a recognized institution.
4. Volunteer Mathematics Teacher – 418 Positions
Applicants must have:
- A Bachelor with Education or Bachelor of Education with Mathematics; or
- A non-education Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics plus a PGDE; or
- A Diploma in Education with Mathematics from a recognized institution.
General Conditions for All Applicants
All applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Be a Tanzanian citizen with a valid National Identification Number (NIDA) and aged not more than 43 years.
- Attach copies of a birth certificate, academic certificates, and professional qualifications.
- Be willing to work in secondary schools with the greatest teacher shortages.
- Not be a government employee or employed by any other institution.
- Must not have been dismissed or retired from public service due to disciplinary issues.
- Attach all required documents through the application system.
- Applicants who completed secondary education outside Tanzania must obtain an Equivalence Number (EQ…) from the National Examinations Council of Tanzania (NECTA).
