Africa Healthcare Network (AHN) is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented professional to join its Tanzania team as a Supply Chain Lead. This exciting opportunity is based in Dar es Salaam and offers a chance to play a critical role in strengthening healthcare delivery systems by ensuring efficient supply chain operations.
Reporting directly to the Finance Controller, the Supply Chain Lead will oversee end-to-end supply chain activities, ensuring that medical consumables, equipment, and logistics operations run smoothly across AHN centers and its central warehouse.
About the Role
The Supply Chain Lead position is central to AHN’s mission of expanding access to quality kidney care across Africa. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing procurement, inventory, logistics, and distribution processes while supporting the organization’s growth and operational excellence.
This role combines strategic planning with hands-on execution, requiring a proactive individual capable of optimizing supply chain systems and maintaining strong relationships with stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
Procurement & Vendor Management
The Supply Chain Lead will build and maintain strong relationships with both local and international suppliers. This includes sourcing medical consumables and equipment, negotiating contracts, and ensuring timely delivery of goods.
A key part of the role involves working closely with regulatory authorities such as the Tanzania Food and Drug Authority (TFDA) to secure licenses, permits, and approvals for medical imports. The role also requires consistent communication with vendors to track and expedite orders, ensuring that all procurement processes align with operational timelines.
Inventory & Warehouse Operations
Efficient inventory management is critical to healthcare delivery. The Supply Chain Lead will coordinate with AHN centers to monitor stock levels, ensure timely replenishment, and maintain availability of essential medical supplies.
The role involves managing inventory records using systems like Sage, ensuring real-time data accuracy and visibility. Responsibilities also include conducting inventory audits, identifying discrepancies, and analyzing stock trends to optimize ordering decisions. Proper storage practices, including the segregation of damaged or expired items, will be essential to maintaining compliance and safety standards.
Distribution & Logistics
The Supply Chain Lead will oversee the distribution of supplies from the central warehouse to AHN centers, ensuring timely and accurate deliveries. This includes managing shipment schedules, supervising drivers, and coordinating packaging and dispatch processes.
Fleet management is another critical component, with the expectation of maintaining operational efficiency and achieving 100% on-time and complete (OTC) deliveries. The role also requires proactive problem-solving to address logistical challenges with minimal supervision.
Stakeholder & Customer Engagement
Collaboration is key in this role. The Supply Chain Lead will work closely with AHN leadership—including the CEO, COO, and Country Head—to align supply chain activities with expansion plans and new center developments. Additionally, the role involves direct engagement with customers, ensuring prompt responses to inquiries and maintaining a high standard of service. The candidate will also support order processing and invoicing in collaboration with the Finance Controller.
Strategic & Growth-Oriented Support
As AHN continues to grow, the Supply Chain Lead will play a vital role in scaling operations to support increased demand and geographical expansion. This includes driving continuous improvement initiatives, leveraging data for decision-making, and contributing to the development of the organization’s equipment distribution arm. The ability to generate actionable insights from supply chain data will be essential for improving efficiency, reducing costs, and enhancing forecasting accuracy.
Supervisory Responsibilities
The position includes direct supervision of:
- Supply Chain Officer(s)

The role requires strong leadership skills to guide, mentor, and coordinate team activities effectively.
Qualifications and Competencies
To succeed in this role, candidates should possess:
