About the “Afya Ubongo Watoto” Project

Vijiji Tanzania is partnering with Agarimo for Africa from Spain to implement the “Afya Ubongo Watoto” Project, an early intervention physiotherapy program for children with neurological deficits or those at risk of developmental delays. The project focuses on addressing motor delays, impaired cognitive functioning, language challenges, and adaptive functioning difficulties among young children.

Position Overview: Project Physiotherapist

The Afya Ubongo Watoto Project is seeking a Project Physiotherapist who will coordinate project activities and manage children’s clinical conditions such as pain, stiffness, and discomfort. The successful candidate will play a critical role in planning and delivering rehabilitation services, including:

  • Children’s Injury Rehabilitation
  • Pain Management
  • Post-Surgical Recovery
  • Neurological Rehabilitation
  • Cardiorespiratory Rehabilitation
  • Paediatric Physiotherapy

Key Responsibilities

The Project Physiotherapist will be responsible for:

  • Supporting children under five years of age to recover from injuries, reduce pain and stiffness, improve mobility, and maximize functional ability
  • Identifying children with conditions such as dizziness, diplopia, dysarthria, dysphagia, drop attacks, nausea and vomiting, sensory changes, nystagmus, and motor delays, and providing prompt physiotherapy intervention
  • Identifying and correcting alterations resulting from birth injuries
  • Providing early stimulation physiotherapy to enhance motor skill development, posture, balance, muscle tone, and overall strength
  • Guiding parents and creating a supportive, child-friendly therapeutic environment
  • Promoting healthy posture and preventing abnormal movement patterns to reduce developmental delays
  • Enhancing children’s ability to perform daily activities and improving overall quality of life
  • Ensuring accurate data collection and submitting monthly reports to project management

Education, Experience, and Skills

Applicants should meet the following requirements:

  • Minimum of one (1) year of progressive physiotherapy intervention experience
  • Experience in project implementation is an added advantage
  • Minimum qualification of a Diploma in Physiotherapy or a related discipline from a recognized institution
  • Additional certification in Paediatric Physiotherapy will be an added advantage
  • Strong computer skills, particularly in MS Office
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
