Railway Children is seeking a reliable and committed Project Driver to support the effective delivery of project activities through safe, efficient, and timely transport services. The role will support staff and project operations under the Railway Children Africa (RCA) Kesho Bora Project or the Mwanza Project, ensuring smooth field and office logistics in line with organizational standards.

Key Responsibilities

A. Safe Driving and Vehicle Management

  • Drive Railway Children vehicles safely and professionally to field sites and other destinations while undertaking official duties.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date vehicle logbooks for every trip and destination.
  • Ensure that only authorized staff, visitors, or beneficiaries use organizational vehicles.
  • Maintain vehicles in good working condition, including routine checks and preventive maintenance.
  • Ensure vehicles receive general servicing after every 5,000 kilometers and are kept clean at all times.
  • Refuel vehicles in a timely manner and request fuel top-ups as required, with proper approval from Admin personnel and supervisors.
  • Ensure vehicle tires meet required safety standards and that the toolbox is always available in the vehicle.
  • Prepare and submit monthly fuel consumption reports based on travel request forms and logbooks to support cost allocation per project/donor.
  • Orient new staff and refresh existing staff, visitors, and beneficiaries on vehicle use and safety procedures when necessary.

B. Logistics and Office Support

  • Dispatch office documents and parcels as directed by supervisors.
  • Support administrative functions related to logistics, storage, procurement, and reporting as requested.

C. Other Duties

  • Perform any other duties related to the role as assigned by the supervisor.

General Duties

  • Uphold and work within Railway Children’s policies and procedures.
  • Promote and demonstrate Railway Children’s core values of Integrity, Bravery, Innovation, and Effectiveness.
  • Travel to Railway Children’s field operations as required.
  • Undertake any other responsibilities delegated by the line manager in line with the post.

Person Specification

Knowledge and Experience

  • Sound knowledge of vehicle management and maintenance practices.
  • Good familiarity with Tanzania’s environment, routes, and locations.
  • Strong understanding of traffic rules and road signs.
  • At least 3 years’ driving experience with an NGO or other reputable organization.
  • A certificate from NIT is an added advantage.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Certificate of Secondary Education.
  • Valid driving license, Class C (C1, C2, or C3) preferred.
  • Good communication and time management skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to relate well to children.
  • Basic knowledge of MS Office applications, especially Word and Excel, and exposure to accounting software.
  • Strong presentation and documentation skills.
  • Fluency in Kiswahili and English.
  • Analytical mindset with strong attention to detail.
