The Pharmacy Technician will play a key role in supporting the Pharmacy Department, ensuring efficient daily operations, compliance with MSF medical protocols, and continuity of pharmaceutical services.
Main Purpose of the Role
The primary objective of this role is to assist in the smooth functioning of pharmacy operations by supporting stock management, reporting, coordination, and adherence to MSF standards. The position works closely with the Pharmacy Manager, Pharmacy Coordinator, and other medical and logistics teams.
Key Responsibilities
1. Pharmacy Operations & Coordination
- Assist in reviewing monthly Pharmacy Situation Reports (SitRep) and provide analytical feedback.
- Support order follow-ups, including tracking backorders for local and international purchases.
- Collaborate with supply teams to ensure timely delivery and proper stock flow.
2. Stock Management & Monitoring
- Supervise and manage pharmaceutical stock across MSF offices, residences, and vehicles.
- Conduct physical counts, monitor expiration dates, and ensure proper replenishment.
- Analyze stock trends, including consumption patterns and potential overstock or shortages.
3. Reporting & Data Management
- Contribute to monthly reporting and ensure accurate pharmaceutical data sharing.
- Maintain proper documentation, including certificates, stock records, and backups.
- Provide insights on pre-expiry stock and suggest redistribution or donation strategies.
4. Logistics & Supply Chain Support
- Assist in shipment tracking and customs clearance processes.
- Work with warehouse teams to monitor stock availability and backorders.
- Ensure updated stock level communication with field projects.
5. Training & Team Support
- Help organize and deliver training sessions for MSF staff.
- Step in for the Project Pharmacy Manager when required.
- Support staff health stock monitoring and emergency kit preparation.
6. Compliance & Safety
- Ensure proper handling and disposal of expired medicines according to MSF and regulatory guidelines.
- Participate in inventory audits and maintain accountability standards.
Qualifications and Requirements
Education
- Diploma or degree in pharmaceutical studies
- Must be a registered Pharmacy Technician
Experience
- Experience working with local pharmacy systems (Ministry of Health or private sector) is an added advantage
- Proven ability to supervise or train team members
Skills and Knowledge
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency in MS Word and Excel
- Good organizational and analytical abilities
Languages
- Fluency in the mission language is required
- Knowledge of local languages is an advantage
