Role Overview
FZS is seeking a Communications and Fundraising Liaison to strengthen its funding base and enhance stakeholder engagement in the Serengeti. This role combines communication, public relations, and fundraising efforts, particularly targeting nature-based tourism businesses to support SECP’s conservation and community-focused initiatives. The position reports to the Programme Manager, SECP, with technical support from the FZS headquarters communications team, and involves travel to partner locations as needed.
Objectives of the Role
- Build and manage relationships with tourism operators to generate sustainable funding.
- Support communication initiatives promoting conservation and community engagement.
- Develop strategies that align conservation efforts with tourism sector partnerships.
Key Responsibilities
1. Communication Support for Conservation Efforts
- Collaborate with the communications team to produce newsletters, social media content, and website updates.
- Highlight stories of community engagement and conservation impact.
- Act as a liaison between SECP and tourism operators to ensure consistent messaging.
- Support other FZS programmes in Tanzania, as required.
2. Fundraising and Engagement with Tourism Operators
- Develop strategies to engage local and international tourism operators in fundraising activities.
- Establish partnerships to secure financial and in-kind support, sponsorships, and event collaborations.
- Represent SECP at tourism-related events to showcase conservation activities and opportunities.
- Organize fundraising events and campaigns, monitoring and reporting on their effectiveness.
3. Reporting and Monitoring
- Track fundraising progress and prepare regular reports for internal stakeholders.
- Evaluate fundraising activities and provide recommendations for improvement.
- Gather feedback from tourism operators on communication materials and strategies.
4. Relationship Management
- Serve as the main point of contact for tourism operators supporting SECP.
- Build long-term relationships to ensure sustained support for conservation initiatives.
- Coordinate media requests with appropriate staff to maintain consistent messaging.
Key Deliverables
- Develop and execute communication and fundraising strategies targeting tourism businesses.
- Secure partnerships, including financial or in-kind contributions.
- Produce communication materials highlighting conservation and tourism partnerships.
- Provide monthly reports on activities.
- Coordinate 2–4 fundraising events or campaigns annually.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential:
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, fundraising, marketing, or related field.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in communication and fundraising.
- Strong knowledge of conservation issues and stakeholder engagement.
- Excellent writing, verbal communication, and presentation skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, CRM systems, Adobe Illustrator, Canva, and basic photography/editing.
- Fluency in English; Kiswahili is an advantage.
Desirable:
- Master’s degree in communications, fundraising, or marketing.
- Knowledge of the Serengeti Ecosystem and local community development challenges.
- Experience in fundraising within conservation and nature-based tourism sectors.
- Understanding of Tanzania and East Africa’s tourism industry.
