About Ruaha Catholic University (RUCU)
Ruaha Catholic University is a fully-fledged University since 2014, located in Iringa Municipality in the Southern Highlands of Tanzania. The University is established and owned by the Tanzania Episcopal Conference (TEC) as a private-secular institution, open to all eligible individuals regardless of nationality, ethnicity, gender, religion, political affiliation, or social status.
RUCU operates in accordance with the Universities Act, 2005, Tanzania Commission for Universities (TCU) guidelines, and the Catholic Church Policy on Higher Education Institutions (Ex Corde Ecclesiae), as well as the provisions of its Charter. The University’s motto is “Academic Excellence and Moral Finesse.” RUCU currently comprises five faculties and one institute.
Position Title: Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs
Tenure
The position is tenable for a period of four (4) years, renewable in accordance with applicable regulations.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs shall, among other responsibilities:
- Assist the Vice Chancellor in the performance of his/her duties and be responsible for the overall academic affairs of the University.
- Perform the functions of the Vice Chancellor in his/her absence.
- Provide day-to-day academic leadership and coordinate research and community service/outreach activities.
- Ensure effective implementation of policies on teaching, learning, and research to maintain high academic standards.
- Evaluate and review University curricula and propose reforms in line with national education policies and labour market needs.
- Oversee quality assurance systems and processes within the University.
- Plan and supervise academic services, research, and training activities.
- Direct and supervise senior management responsible for academic and related functions.
- Implement academic policies, directives, and decisions of the University Council.
- Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the Vice Chancellor, Senate, or Council.
Qualifications and Experience
Applicants must:
- Hold the rank of Associate Professor or Professor from a recognized institution.
- Possess proven leadership and management experience in university or higher education administration.
- Demonstrate strong academic credentials, integrity, and commitment to institutional values.
