About the UNIDO Internship Program 2025

The UNIDO Internship Program is a structured, immersive experience that empowers young professionals to contribute to real-world projects promoting economic growth, environmental sustainability, and social progress. Interns work alongside global experts in a multicultural environment, developing practical skills and global perspectives that prepare them for impactful careers in international organizations, policy, and industry. Through this program, participants gain first-hand exposure to UNIDO’s work in key areas such as:

Eligibility Criteria

The program is open to nationals of UNIDO Member States who meet one of the following academic criteria:

  • Currently enrolled in the final year of a Bachelor’s degree,
  • Enrolled in a Master’s or higher program, or
  • Have graduated within the last 12 months.

Applicants must also demonstrate proficiency in the working language of the duty station (usually English).

Internship Locations & Duration

Internships are available both at UNIDO Headquarters in Vienna, Austria and across field offices worldwide.

  • Duration: 3–6 months (extendable up to 12 months for sponsored placements)
  • Start Dates: The first working day of each month
  • Flexibility: The schedule is adaptable to academic calendars and availability

Stipend & Logistics

As of September 2025, all interns receive a monthly stipend to support basic living expenses. However, participants are expected to cover their travel, visa, accommodation, insurance, and personal costs. UNIDO provides necessary support letters for visa processing but interns are not authorized to travel on official missions during their assignment.

Note: Participation does not guarantee future employment with UNIDO, but internship experience is recognized as valuable professional experience for many UN agencies and international organizations.
